We have a new opening in for a Director of Nursing (DON) at Landmark Hospital of Columbia. Join our leadership team drives exceptional care to our medically complex patients. The DON sets the tone for the nursing team and will be responsible for the organization, development, management, and administration of day-to-day nursing activities, including supervision of RN, LPN, and patient care technicians. This role also assists in managing the efficiency and smooth operations of the nursing department (staffing, supplies, onboarding, competency training, regulatory compliance, etc.) and is supported by a nurse manager who focuses on education, competency and onboarding staff. Together, this team is responsible for the quality of the patient care delivered.
The Director of Nursing (DON) will have a depth of knowledge and experience with the implementation of policy and rules and setting performance expectations for the staff. The successful DON will thrive in communicating with the team, providing mentoring and education to staff, and focusing on process improvement. The DON drives a positive work environment and actively recruits to ensure we have the best team on the floor. The Director of Nursing will keep skills up to date by joining the nursing team on the floor if necessary to meet adequate staffing for the patients. As a part of the broader hospital system, the DON will contribute and act upon best practices across nursing practices.
The DON is a key player on the leadership team and enjoys a close working relationship with the CEO, Providers and other Department leaders who collaborate daily to ensure excellent patient care is provided.
DON Education Requirements:
- Registered Nurse license in the state
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Health Administration or equivalent
• If no Bachelor’s, must have an active RN license, and agree to actively pursue a bachelor’s with a plan to obtain a degree within 2 years of starting the role
DON Experience Requirements
- a minimum of 2 years as RN, preferably in an ICU / Critical Care facility
- a minimum of 1 year of management / supervisory experience
- BLS and ACLS certifications
DON Key Competencies include:
- Deep clinical competency / skills - strong preference for experience with ICU/CCU care in an acute care hospital
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and implement effective solutions in complex situations
- Ability to handle difficult situations in a professional manner (patients, families, employees)
- Experience with managing a team
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare technology
- Understanding of regulations guiding nursing care and hospitals
