Position Overview: The Nurse Manager is responsible for unit coordination and day-to-day supervision for Lake Winona Manor. The Nurse Manager supports the nursing units by providing expertise in the nursing practice process, facilitating optimal delivery of resident care through evidenced-based practices adhering to patient safety principles including the code of ethics, and providing effective leadership. The Nurse Manager supports the units by daily rounding making improvements in standard work and interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures of the organization. The Nurse Manager shall be advised of all pertinent information and shall be responsible for oversight/reporting of all significant occurrences. The Nurse Manager is accountable for leader's standard work and daily/weekly audits of department standard work, encourages staff level leadership in the department and interacts with staff throughout LWM and the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensures resident care aligns with the desired expectations of the resident. Assist unit staff by coaching, mentoring and monitoring the implementation of care plans, procedures and customer service provided.
- Is a role model for all nursing units by utilizing positive behaviors to support each unit. Understands the processes and functions of all nursing units.
- Analyze staffing needs in a cost-effective manner to assure appropriate and qualified staff availability. Assist staff in all nursing units as needed with staffing needs, census, and acuity to assure adequate resident care. Collaborate with the staff in decisions regarding overtime if necessary.
- Identify priorities and execute plans accordingly. Contributes to the efficient and smooth functioning of each unit. Assure that all decisions made are resident (and family) centered.
- Knowledgeable about long term care regulations.
- Understands the Nursing Practice Process including assessment, implementation, planning and evaluation of resident care. Keeps current on nursing theory, research, medications and legal issues related to resident-based services.
- Collects, interprets, records and communicates pertinent data that is relevant to the resident care and consults with other members of the health care team appropriately.
- Champions and leads CSI work across the organization. Collects data and demonstrate the ability to interpret the data so that appropriate targets on agreed upon measures are achieved. Demonstrate LEAN leadership through coaching, inquiry root cause analysis and removal of barriers to improved performance.
- Assist the Director of Nursing in analyzing all quality initiatives including incident/occurrence reports, medication error reports, resident complaints/concerns and resident falls; perform record review as warranted.
- Effectively communicates appropriate information with staff using the established and preferred communication methods and regular staff meetings.
- Participates in written, verbal, and corrective reviews as necessary with the staff regarding performance evaluations.
- Acts as a liaison between providers and staff.
- Serves as a backup to the Nurse Staffing Coordinator in times of absence or as needed to ensure the schedule is complete and up-to-date.
Essential Skills and Experience:
2-4-year nursing degree or degree in a related field of study. A minimum of 2 years of RN experience is required. Long Term knowledge required. Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Crucial Conversations training to be completed within the first year of employment. Demonstrated leadership experience. CPR Certification. RN License - MN. Basic computer skills including Word, Excel, and Outlook and EMR (Electronic Medical Records).
Required Work Schedule:
Hours are generally days, Monday through Friday. This role oversees staff on all shifts so evenings, nights, weekends and holidays may be required based on the needs of the department.
