RN OB/GYN Full-time

We are an 18 bed Birthing Suite where our nurses are cross trained to labor and delivery, mother/baby couplet care, and Level II nursery. Our unit functions under total patient care model, so each nurse develops and delivers individualized care to their patients in collaboration with the physicians and midwives. Our unit offers the distinct opportunity for nurses to lead the way in developing our delivery of care practices centered on best evidence based practice. Our nurses work closely with our physicians and midwives to enhance the care delivered at the bedside. Cross training in all areas of mother/baby care enhances the bedside nurse’s experience so that each day offers the possibility of a new learning opportunity. In addition to working on the Birthing Suite, nurses can also cross train to work on our Pediatric Unit to develop an additional skill set. The Birthing Suite is a locked unit for the added safety of our patients and staff.

Responsible for the delivery of patient care for assigned patients on a specific shift worked. Coordination of all aspects of the medical plan and nursing standards of care using the nursing process for triage, L&D, Circulating/scrub for C-Sections, Post-partum, antepartum, and nursery. Also directs and guides the activities of other personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the obstetrical department. Must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the information. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. This position requires weekend and call rotation.  Call response time: 60 minutes or 30 minutes if on call for C-Section coverage

Requirements

  • Diploma and/or Associate Degree of Nursing
  • Educational requirements per hospital certifications (Example: Stroke, Orthopedic/Spine)
  • Education requirements for annual nursing & Unit specific skills
  • Current and valid Registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or from a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia
  • CPR
  • ACLS, NRP, and Relias fetal monitoring prior to coming off orientation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN, MSN
  • Preferred specialty certification
  • STABLE
  • Preferred L&D and/or post-partum experience

Job Summary The Advanced Clinical Nurse Educator creates, manages and evaluates education/training programs and services, develops related goals and objectives, recommends policies, and evaluates program outcomes.
