Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Meet physical and sensory requirements stated below, and be able to work in the described environment.

  • Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the customer experience, enhance work flow, and/or improve the work environment.

  • Management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training and developing, coaching and counseling, and terminating department staff, as deemed necessary.

  • Ensure that corrective action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, amnesty, or veteran status in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct restorative care services, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.

  • Meet with administration, medical and nursing staff, therapy department, as well as other related departments in planning restorative care.

  • Develop and maintain restorative care standards.

  • Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of resident care plans, resident assessments, etc., as necessary.

  • Assume the authority, responsibility and accountability of directing restorative care services.

  • Maintain a current file of residents treated.

  • Maintain treatment records, resident files, and progress notes, as required.

  • Work with the facility's consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes, as required.

  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.

  • Assist the administrator and/or the DON in the recruitment and selection of competent restorative care personnel.

  • Review request for restorative care and physicians' orders.

  • Interview resident to determine type of treatment and schedule therapy.

  • Select rehabilitative and therapeutic activities and exercises based on medical and social history of residents.

  • Evaluate type of therapy most desirable after consulting with the physician and therapy personnel.

  • Brief resident of procedures involved in restorative care and prepare necessary equipment.

  • Perform restorative care treatments in resident's room, as necessary.

  • Prepare resident for treatment by dress/position and administer restorative care in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Recommend modifications and changes in the resident's restorative care as indicated.

  • Complete all restorative care notes in an informative and descriptive manner which indicates the treatment provided and the resident's response to the care.

  • Assist in developing restorative care plans for individual residents in coordination and conjunction with the resident assessment (MDS).

  • Review the restorative care requirements of each resident admitted to the facility and assist the attending physician in planning for the resident's care and/or treatment.

  • Verify that care plans indicate restorative care when such therapy is ordered.

  • Complete required assessments and sign-off on all necessary restorative documents.

  • Other special projects and duties, as assigned.

 Job Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse with required state licensure.

  • One (1) to three (3) years related experience; supervisory experience preferred.

  • Must have a current/active CPR certification.

  • Recognize resident’s needs such as ROM exercises, ambulation limitations, etc.

  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills.

  • Demonstrated basic to intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, Internet and Intranet navigation.

  • Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels of organization and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives.

  • Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and make independent decisions.

  • Ability to deal with new tasks without the benefit of written procedures.

 Physical and Sensory Requirements:

·         Moderate physical activity:

o   Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds to a minimum height of three (3) feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of fifty (50) feet.

o   Standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

o   Bending and/or stooping for more than one (1) hour at a time.

o   Sitting for more than one (1) hour at a time.

o   Requires writing and/or computer work with repetitive typing and concentrating on computer screen and/or documents for more than two (2) hours at a time.

Environment:

Work will be performed primarily indoors at one of our long-term healthcare facilities, throughout all areas, including in resident rooms, and on carpeted and/or tiled floors. Work will be performed there routinely around other co-workers, healthcare staff, residents, and guests. Due to the nature of facility’s business, worker may be exposed to occasional slippery floors, object on floors, chemicals, sharp objects, hazardous materials and waste (including human), blood­ borne pathogens, and communicable diseases, as well as high-stress medical and/or life threatening situations.

The Augusta Health Cancer Center is an outpatient clinic and chemotherapy infusion unit. Oncology nurses play a critical role in the delivery of quality nursing care to a high-risk and complex patient population. Comprehensive knowledge and skills regarding cancer pathophysiology, treatment options and symptom management are required elements of practice. We have a 13 chair outpatient cancer infusion center and an 8 chair infusion center for non-cancer patients. Nurses are cross-trained to work in both areas. For novice oncology nurses, the first one or two years of practice are focused on gaining an in-depth education regarding the biology of cancer, treatment regimens and comprehensive symptom management. Skill in care and maintenance of venous access devices and handling and administration of hazardous drugs must be cultivated. Guidelines for nursing competency are outlined in the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Guidelines and Recommendations for Practice. Novice nurses will work closely with an experienced oncology nurse and will be expected to take a Cancer Basics course and ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration Certificate course and will orient with their preceptor for 3 to 4 months.
