Summary

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled individual that works in a healthcare setting to support the non-clinical and clinical functions of the service area. Functions within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and under the direction and continuous supervision of a licensed healthcare provider (MD, NP, RN, LPN) during performance of uncomplicated clinical services and tasks. Reports to department leadership.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides safe and effective delivery of uncomplicated clinical services and tasks within the Medical Assistant scope of practice only and under the direction and continuous supervision of a licensed health care provider.
    • Provides appropriate clinical and non-clinical information to facilitate visit process.
    • Maintains sterility and cleanliness of the environment.
    • Maintains supplies, equipment and instruments.
    • Supports and performs clerical functions as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current registration/certification as a Medical Assistant, higher level clinical certification (LPN, RN, or higher), or military medical experience with MA certification/registration required.
    • CPR training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Graduate of an approved accredited allied health program or clinical program.
    • One to two years of experience in a related healthcare field preferred.
    • Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.

The duties of Care Promoter 1 vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location and type. In addition to administrative duties, Care Promoters perform clinical duties under direct physician supervision in accordance with state medical practice acts. The Care Promoter 1 is an integral member of a Physician-lead Care Team that is focused on providing excellent and comprehensive primary care for a specific population of patients. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Measures and records patient vital signs; records patient interview and medical history. Catalogs and communicates patient needs to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel. Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests; assists physician with exams; explains treatment procedures and physicians' instructions to patient. Observes patients and reports any changes in patient conditions to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist and/or other clinical personnel. Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology; and follows appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct; authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system to support physician medication dispensing. Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls. Performs other duties as assigned and modified at manager’s discretion.
