RN School Contract

A part-time Registered Nurse (RN) position is available in a preschool early childhood setting in DeKalb, IL. This contract role supports a 1:1 caseload with a young child requiring specialized nursing care, including tracheostomy and ventilator support. The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 8:20 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., totaling 18 hours per week, with Fridays off. This opportunity runs from ASAP through the Extended School Year (ESY).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide skilled nursing care to a preschool-aged student in a school-based setting.
  • Assist with medical needs including trach and vent management throughout the school day.
  • Coordinate transportation support by meeting the student at home or the bus stop and accompanying them safely to the preschool building.
  • Collaborate closely with paraeducators, RBTs, CNAs, or LPNs who provide supervision.
  • Maintain clear documentation of care and communicate effectively with the education team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid Illinois RN license, required; LPN candidates will not be considered.
  • Previous experience working with pediatric patients requiring tracheostomy and ventilator support preferred.
  • Comfortable with 1:1 nursing care in a school environment.
  • Ability to safely escort student via bus and maintain communication with school personnel.
  • Availability for a quick turnaround on interview and hiring decisions.
