WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Arrange instrument trays, prepare sterile drapes and solutions, and help the surgical team put on caps, gowns, and gloves.

  • Assist with prep of patients, as needed.

  • Pass instruments to surgeons and surgical assistants.

  • May assist with sponge, needle, and other supply counts to track materials used in surgery.

  • May operate suction, diagnostic, and sterilizing equipment, and package specimens to take for laboratory analysis.

  • Clinic responsibilities may include rooming patients, taking vitals, orders, and routing phone calls.

  • PRN night shift Position available


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required High School Diploma/GED

  • 1 year Operating Room Experience Required

  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Perioperative Services, is seeking a 90% Surgical Technologist I or II for the Gynecology Team. Surgical Technologists assists with surgical procedures, provision of therapeutic, preventive, and emergency patient care duties. Prepares, operates, and maintains routine and complex equipment, instruments, supplies and implants. All duties are done under the direction of a registered professional nurse. Duties To Include Prepares surgical area for patient care and anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Serves as primary preceptor for Surgical Technology students, Summer 10 Nursing Interns or new staff. Serves on shared governance committee, POD committee or EBP workgroup Applies knowledge related to emergency situations and surgical procedures in the operating room. Understands the principles of medical and surgical asepsis; recognizes and communicates breaks in aseptic technique.
