JOB TITLE:  MEDICAL ASSISTANT

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for assisting providers with evaluation, examination and treatment of patients and all follow up duties related to patient care. 

 

REPORTS TO:  Office Manager and Practice Manager

 

RESPONSIBILITES

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

Daily:

  • Reviews schedule of upcoming appointments to ensure charts are prepped and include necessary documents such as required labs, x-rays, medication list, consults, etc.
  • Calls and assists patients from waiting area to back office for triage which includes but not limited to: weight, height, blood pressure, vision, hearing, pulse ox, EKG, labs, UA, question intake, medication review, etc.
  • Reports any STAT findings to provider
  • Answers phone calls, emails, voicemails and returns patient calls in a timely and efficient manner. Documents all telephone conversations with patients and family members
  • Schedules referrals and outpatient testing and contacts the patient with the information pertaining to said appointment.
  • Manages medication refill requests as per clinical guidelines 
  • Assists with any procedures the provider needs.
  • Cleans and sanitizes exam rooms after every patient.
  • Draws labs and performs point of service testing on patients as per provider orders.  Follow-up on all tests performed providing results timely to ordering provider. 
  • Administer injections as per provider orders documenting administration as per clinical guidelines 
  • Abides by and promotes HIPAA compliance; maintains strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information. 
  • Performs emergency life-saving procedures if necessary

Monthly:

 

  • Assist with maintaining drug closet as assigned
  • Assist with maintaining items in office are stocked up as assigned 
  • Perform monthly calibration checks on required equipment and log
  • Participates in staff meetings as directed by the Practice Manager
  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned

 

 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Two years’ experience as a Medical Assistant with in family practice or specialty, preferred. CPR certification required.

Medical Assistant must be able to:

  • Possesses the ability to deal with patients, visitors, co-workers, and physicians with courtesy and respect

  • Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated by the Practice Manager
  • Work under pressure; assess, respond, and communicate issues in a timely manner
  • Communicate clearly with patients and coworkers through the telephone, email, and in-person
  • Interpret and apply clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures
  • Maintains Certification for Medical Assisting as required by accrediting organization

  • Appropriate protective equipment will be readily available and provided

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIROMENTAL DEMANDS

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment; spends 95% or more of time inside. Lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.
