Summary
Provides direct basic nursing care to residents under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse according to company policies and procedures, including services listed in the Oregon Administrative Rules, and to ensure the company's goal of providing care to our residents in an atmosphere of comfort, independence and dignity. In addition, they will mentor new CNA hires in order to establish a path to success and retention and alleviate any obstacles.
Essential Functions

Provides resident care as assigned, including but not limited to the following: grooming and cleanliness, exercise, adequate fluid and nutrition intake, monitoring adequate sleep and rest, hygiene and continence, and optimal freedom from pain.
Assists in maintenance or restoration of maximum ability for residents to dress, bathe, and groom oneself; control own bowel and bladder; feed oneself; ambulate and transfer oneself; appropriately interact with others; orient oneself to time, place and person; productively and/or enjoyably occupy one’s time.
Performs daily assignment in keeping public areas and utility rooms clean. Keeps resident rooms, closets, and drawers orderly.
Mentors newly hired CNAs: demonstrates how to clock in, provides a tour of the building, indicates where to store their belongings and how to get a locker, works through the new hire checklist and new hire competency forms, checks in with new hire at end of day for the first week and asks specific questions regarding training, remains a resource after training is completed.
Assists the Director of Nursing with various projects when assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
Consistent execution of quality customer service. Maintains and demonstrates ethical conduct. Able to effectively communicate with geriatric and/or confused residents and a variety of other people such as family members, visitors, vendors, Private Duty Residents, and staff. Positive and constructive attitude. Ability to do repetitive detail work. Ability to notice change in a resident's physical and/or psycho-social condition and report to the Nurse Supervisor. Ability to be flexible and adapt to change, and take direction from the Nurse Supervisor. Must demonstrate knowledge of body mechanics and the ability to safely transfer residents. Must demonstrate safe feeding techniques. Demonstrated computer proficiency. Experience with EMR preferred.
Working Environment & Physical Demands
This position is required to regularly work on campus.
Works in a well-lit and well-ventilated facility. May be exposed to confused, belligerent or physically aggressive residents, may be exposed to contagious diseases and mental stress. Subject to frequent interruptions. Manual dexterity, good vision and hearing is required.
Physical Demands
This role requires frequent physical activity throughout the shift, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and sustained movement. Employees must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, perform light to moderate lifting multiple times per day, and carry light items short distances. The position involves reaching above shoulder level, pushing wheelchairs weighing up to 280 pounds over distances of up to 350 feet multiple times daily, and continuous walking, bending, twisting, squatting, and turning for the duration of the shift.
Required Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
1 – 3 years’ current nursing assistant experience preferred. Nursing assistant experience in an acute setting may substitute for long-term nursing experience.
Certification as a Nurse Assistant in the state of Oregon required, having successfully completed an Oregon State Board of Nursing approved training program, and must be in good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
Current CPR or BLS certification required.
Valid Oregon Food Handler Card required.
