Registered Nurse Sim Lab Coordinator-Full Time Days

The purpose of the position is to ensure the successful execution of all clinical, technical and managerial aspects of the Riverside Simulation Training Lab (RSTL) to maintain it at the highest possible operational level. In collaboration with the RSTL Medical Director, the Coordinator is responsible for planning, directing, implementing and coordinating all simulation training program curricula developed to include: (1) graduate medical education simulation to support Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requirements; (2) team-based healthcare simulation utilizing task trainers, patient simulators (manikins), and healthcare team training to support DNV Healthcare's National Integrated Accreditation requirements; and (3) new medical-surgical equipment/new procedure demonstration.

What you will do

  • Supervises all clinical, technical and managerial activities within the RSTL. Coordinates and plans simulation curriculum and clinical scenarios, sets educational priorities and prepares schedules. Accomplishes a comprehensive range of simulated clinical scenarios of clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans. Delegates and accomplishes assignments based on priorities collaborated with and set by the Medical Director of the RSTL.
  • Develops, maintains and updates educational strategies for the RSTL to include pursuit and maintenance of Accreditation. Collaborates with Medical Director, RSTL, on new simulation technologies and current clinical practices that can be enhanced by the use of medical simulators. Provides monthly reports, as required, regarding overall RSTL facility operations.
  • In collaboration with Medical Director, prepares and maintains RSTL's budget. Funds are critical and will be closely monitored monthly with the Administrative Director of Medical Education. Reviews user requests for purchases, evaluates training needs, obtains quotes, and submits justification for purchases of new simulation technology based on educational priorities of the health system. Provides monthly reports, as required, regarding budget.
  • Demonstrates clinical acumen to effectively facilitate simulation-based education (SBE) for physician, nurse and ancillary learners. Writes and updates RSTL's standard operating procedures (SOPs). Uses critical-thinking skills to conduct needs assessment and provides recommendations for simulators to meet training requirements. Ensures learners utilizing the Sim Lab adhere to established SOPs. Educates clinical learners on proper and safe use of simulation equipment to optimize training and minimize maintenance requirements. Collaborates with RSTL Medical Director to research new simulation technology for the training arena. Outreaches and collaborates with physician and nursing educators to determine needs for simulation technology. Interviews learners regarding their SBE requirements. Assesses needs of learners by reviewing educational activity, evaluations and course critiques to ensure learning objectives are met. Oversees all program and course development created for the RSTL's users. Responds to all inquiries about lab's capabilities and features. Promotes RSTL in planning tours for visitors. Serves as scenario content advisor to ensure successful operations in relation to SBE programs. Works closely with RHS physician and nursing team members across the spectrum of care settings including those on the inpatient units, staff educators, Emergency Department, Surgical Services and Hospitalists. Builds and maintains trusting relationships with key community partners to develop clinical scenarios.
