About the unit: We are a 29 bed inpatient Medical & Surgical unit. The surgical population of this unit would mainly include: orthopedics and spine surgeries. This unit presents a great opportunity to see a variety of patients with acute care needs. We have designated Charge Nurses on the unit. A typical Staff RN would have 1:4-5 ratio during the day and 1:5-6 at night. We would typically staff 4 NA’s during the day and 3 at night. New staff members are partnered with a preceptor and mentor to help acclimate them to the unit. We pride ourselves with being the first unit to receive a Team Daisy Award for Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital. We promote participation in Shared Governance, which helps drive decision making at the bedside.

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population. The Staff RN-Inpatient job description has incorporated essential functions which are adapted from the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010).

EDUCATION DESCRIPTION:

Upon hire any non-BSN nurse with less than one year of licensed registered nurse experience will be required to enroll in a BSN (or higher nursing degree) program. Acceptance into a program is expected within 15 months of hire and the degree program must be completed within 5 years of enrollment, or 6 years if program is MSN, DNP or PhD in Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

They provide direct supervision of patient teaching and ensure that ancillary personnel only perform services for which they are qualified. The Charge RN is accountable for the overall quality of patient care in their assigned unit. Key Responsibilities Supervising the total health care delivery system in their assigned unit, ensuring compliance with policy and procedure, and coordinating patient care with other departments. Monitoring nursing service, maintain accurate records, and identify potential problems, proposing corrective actions as needed. Assisting with staff orientation, training, and evaluations, and coordinate staffing levels to meet contractual requirements. Ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and appearance of the unit and maintain appropriate levels of medical equipment and supplies. Maintaining a professional atmosphere and attend monthly staff meetings as directed by the Director of Nursing or Administrator. Experience Prefer a minimum of one-year clinical experience. Licenses/Certifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse within the state of employment. Current CPR Certification.
