Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required)
  • Must possess a current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Must possess current certification in CPR.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current practices for common childhood illnesses and chronic diseases: asthma management, diabetes, insulin pen and pumps, seizure management.
  • Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy feeding tubes, insulin administration, insulin pump skills, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Computer skills. A baccalaureate degree in nursing or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in pediatric and/or communi/r public health nursing is preferred.
  • Prior experience in school nursing or an acute care setting is preferred.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in nregularclassrooms, outdoors, and on the phone; physical agility to lift to 25 pounds; and to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.

Ability to stand, walk, and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time.
