Performs direct patient care activities for all age groups to include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Monitors and coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient care and comfort. Functions within the scope of nursing preparation and consistent with the established guidelines of nursing practice, the goals of Mercy Health System, the Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, the Respective State Nurse Practice Act, the Code of Professional and Business Ethics and the Co-Worker Code of Conduct. Unit Information:

OB/GYN (5B) Woman's Surgical is a 32-bed unit providing care for post-partum, mother/baby couplets and medical-surgical patients.  Patients served include various GYN conditions, GYN/Oncology, Obstetrical Complications, and Mother/Baby Couplets.  Our medical/ surgical population consists of various GYN surgical procedures, bariatric weight loss surgical procedures, colon resections and other minor colon surgeries, and general medical patients.  Nurse to patient ratios is 1:5-6 and PCA to patient ratios 1:6-8.  All staff work 12-hour shifts, 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700, which includes alternating weekends and holidays.

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program.

  • Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
