PRN
A Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Reports to: Manager
Accountable to: Chief Nursing Officer

FLSA: Non-exempt

Minimum Education: School of Nursing 3rd year student or higher
Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)


Essential Functions
Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
Performs direct patient care under the direction, delegation and supervision of a registered nurse.
Documents patient care given.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to supervising RN.
Maintains positive professional relationship with patient/ families, coworkers, and health care team.
Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
Supports performance improvement philosophy.


Nonessential Functions
Assist with orientation and training of personnel and students.
Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
