Opportunity Overview:

 

The PACU RN provides clinical care and uses coordination skills for every patient served. Nursing care is delivered using the Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy, the ability to coordinate with the patient and family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to meet patient care needs. Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values.

What You Can Expect:

 

Eskenazi Health is a Level 1 trauma center, due to our high acuity, team members in this role should demonstrate:

  • Critical thinking skills
  • Competency in assessing, responding to patient status or needs, and interpreting results
  • Recognizes and reacts to changes in patient status, documents and reports changes

 

Unit Layout:

  • 19 PACU bays
  • Patient/nurse ratio: 2:1--can vary based on patient acuity level

 

Types of Patients:

  • 80% of cases are outpatient procedures
  • 20% of cases get admitted--level of acuity can vary from MedSurg to ICU--RN's in the PACU will be responisible for managing levels of care until patient can be transferred to appropriate unit.
  • Some minor pediatric procedures are performed

Am I Qualified:

 

  • Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse
  • RN degree from a nationally accredited college or university
  • Current BLS certification; other certifications may be required in specific units to practice
  • Minimum of 1-year clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse

Scheduling

 

PACU RN's work 12 hour shifts, with varied start times.  This position will have a variable start time between the hours of 7 am and 10 am, based on unit needs.

 

Call Requirements:

  • Two 8 hour night call shifts per six week schedule (11:00pm-7:30am)
  • Seven weekend call shifts per year (this may vary based on unit needs)--Weekend call shifts are Saturday and Sunday night (7:00pm-7:30am)

Job Summary The Registered Nurse, Emergency Department is responsible for handling initial patient assessments, performing laboratory work, point of care testing and administrative tasks associated with the delivery of patient care. The Emergency Department Registered Nurse collaborates with physicians regarding discharge plans, creates and educates patients upon discharge from the Emergency Department and works effectively in transferring patients who are admitted to the hospital. Job Responsibilities Triages patients who present to the Emergency Department, prioritizing care based on the critical nature and severity of a patient’s condition. Assesses patient condition through visual evaluation, medication reconciliation, and vital sign measurements such as: blood pressure reading pulse rate, respiration, and temperature throughout the course of a patient’s stay in the Emergency Department. Administers medication and assists with medical procedures as prescribed by the treating physician. Monitors patients for changes in condition and communicates timely and effectively with those involved in the welfare, care or treatment of the patient in compliance with applicable policies and regulations. Partners with other members of the patient care treatment team in the provision of procedures, interventions, discharge or admission processes. Charts all patient medical history, contact information, condition, medications, and treatment as well as update the electronic medical record throughout the patient stay in the Emergency Department.
