Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborates with educators to assess the educational needs of the staff on an on-going basis and identify individual knowledge and/or technical gaps and recommending programs and/or learning plans to close the gaps in clinical knowledge
• Assists with scheduling of staff educational programs
• Participates in the evaluation of nursing practice and makes recommendations for developmental/revision of nursing standards
• Collaborate with staff development in the planning and coordination of orientation programs
• Act in lieu of the Director of Nursing for the Maternal Child Division, in their absence
• Adhere to and actively participate in the regular review, development and/or revision of nursing practice, policies, procedures and protocols.
• Ensure competency and safe maintenance of all medical devices within the sphere of responsibility.
• Ensure compliance and participation in internal and external required activities (example: NY State/City Collaboratives, Regional Perinatal Center Program/Activities, MCH Collaboratives).
• Keep abreast with all aspects of Obstetrical Nursing, current research and clinical developments.
• Participate in the education and act as link assessor for nurses by acting as mentor/preceptor/role model.
• Promote a professional image at all times and accountable for own clinical practice.
• Ensure clinical practice is in alignment with organization, professional, and regulatory standard
• Serves on nursing/hospital/system committees as assigned
• All other duties as assigned
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.
• Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.
• A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
