FUNCTION
Provides, plans coordinates or manages orientation and in-service education for facility employees.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• Anyone found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in health care related

Education and/or Experience: Prefer a registered nurse with management or supervisor
experience in long term care or geriatric nursing. Minimum of licensed practical or vocational
nurse with experience in long term care of geriatric nursing.
Certificates, Licensees, Registrations: Current state license to practice as a nurse. Current
CPR certification and additional certification in nursing specialty desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read analyze and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government
regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, nursing/patient progress notes and nursing procedures. Ability
to effectively present information and respond to questions from department heads, customers (patients, family members,
physicians, etc.) and the general public. Computer skills preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions
furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Care and Services:
• Responsible for facility education programs, including orientation and ongoing services.
• Designs, plans and provides education programs on all shifts and for all departments.
• Participate in staff evaluation process by providing attendance records and observation of employees’
performance.
• Provide general facility information to all new employees and ongoing in-service education.
• Maintains currently education records of classes and content of in-service conducted, attendance and
performance of facility employees.
• Plans and provides annual schedule of planed education programs.
• Creates lesson plans containing objectives, course content, method of instruction and method of evaluation.
• Applies adult learning principles.
• If provided by the facility, conducts and maintains the nurse aide training program.
• In charge of the facility in absence of high ranking management.
• Accepts only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with one’s own educational preparation,
experience, knowledge and ability and obtains instruction and supervision as necessary when implementing
nursing procedures and practices.
Resident Rights
Promotes and protects resident’s rights, assists patients to make informed decision, treat patients with dignity and
respect, protect patients’ personal belongings, report suspected abused or neglect, avoids the need for physical
restraint in accordance with current professional standards and, supports independence expression, choice and

Infection Control
Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions; recognizes
signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of the
process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintain personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in
the workplace; and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination.
Information Management
Enters or records data timely and accurately; protects confidentiality of resident information, protects data against
loss or destruction, logs on the system using own passwords, logs off the system when leaving the work station,
reports suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues, reviews identifies trends and delete passwords of
employees no longer needing access to software programs. Monitors and oversees facility’s efforts to comply with
company policies, procedures and state and federal law.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through directive relationships, treats others with dignity and respect,
seeks feedback, sets clear standards for performance, evaluate job performance and provides effective feedback, establishes
system to measure effectiveness, efficiency and service and creates and maintains reporting mechanisms.
