The unit serves a variety of patients who have undergone surgery including Gynecological, Vascular, Urological, and Gastrointestinal. The pediatric population is a variety of children with complaints of dehydration, respiratory illnesses, orthopedic injuries and general surgeries. The unit is a place where you will gain experience in diversity from newborn to geriatric clientele. Utilizes this objective data and works under the supervision of the registered nurse in providing nursing care grounded in the ANA standards of nursing practice. May administer medications under the direct supervision of the RN after completing Pharmacology course (or equivalent content) in school. The Nurse Intern must be a nursing student entering the final semester of a registered nurse program or an individual having completed a nursing program but not yet obtained state licensure to practice as an RN. Obtains clinical knowledge and technical skills while working under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse i.e Clinical Nurse 2,3 or 4. You Will: Be a nursing student entering the final 9 months of a RN program or an individual who has completed an accredited nursing program but has not yet received registered nursing licensure. Be currently enrolled in, or a graduate of, an accredited school of nursing. Current employees must have an overall highly valued rating on their last performance review. If enrolled in a nursing program, must meet the following: Be active in the nursing program, without discipline. Pay Range $21.45 - $32.20 Major Responsibilities: Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, completes activities of daily living, vital sign completion and blood glucose monitoring. Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in establishing a plan of care based upon an analysis of health, education and developmental needs and patient/family preferences. Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, evaluates patient response to interventions and effectively communicates observations and patient needs to the Registered Nurse. Develops delegation skills appropriate to Health Unit Coordinators, Nursing Assistants and technical roles on unit. Administers medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse. The level of clinical judgment and proficiency of skill must be evaluated prior to medication administration. Manages an increased number of patients and incorporates principles of time management into shift routine. Demonstrates an ability to collect and synthesize relevant patient data accurately identifying patient status and needs. In emergency situations and under appropriate supervision of a Registered Nurse, participates in activities they have demonstrated knowledge and skill in. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: None Required. Education Required: Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Nursing. Experience Required: No experience required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Current enrollment (in final year) or graduate of an accredited nursing program. Successful completion of a Medical Surgical Course that includes pharmacological concepts. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workload necessary. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift. Our Orthopedic patients include joint replacements, traumatic fractures and injuries to the extremities, and back pain. 4NW also cares for a variety of both medical and surgical neurological patients including stroke, movement disorders, traumatic brain/spinal injuries, and mixed neurosurgical patients. All nursing staff are NIHSS stroke certified and all caregivers receive specialized training to promote safe and early mobilization of post-surgical joint patients. We Are Hiring: Nurse Intern -Waukesha Memorial Hospital 5MED- 0.4 FTE (Flexible Shifts) The Medical Unit (5MED) at WMH is a fast paced, 53 bed unit serving a variety of patient populations. The staff here provide care for patients with a diagnosis of Sepsis, Acute/Chronic Respiratory conditions, including but not limited to: Trachs/Vents, Cellulitis, Urinary Tract infections, chronic conditions such as COPD, Heart Failure, Diabetes, patients on Dialysis, and acute drug and alcohol withdrawal. Our staff are also well prepared to care for medical patients with mental health conditions and those patients with Dementia. There are approximately 120 staff on the unit, including: RN’s (tenured and new), CNA’s, Nurse Interns, Health Unit Coordinators, Staff Development Specialist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Charge Nurse, Assistant Manager, and Manager to provide full support to the staff.
