Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Opportunity Overview:

The Operating Room RN provides clinical care and uses coordination skills for every patient served. This includes an understanding of the expected patients served in the unit'(s) nursing care is delivered using the Eskenazi Health Model of Care-Synergy, the ability to coordinate with the patient and family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to meet patient care needs. Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health values.

What You Can Expect:

Eskenazi Health is a Level 1 trauma center which means that we have a high acuity and multiple service lines. Therefore, you can anticipate learning about several different specialties within the perioperative world including: orthopedics, plastics, thoracics, neurosurgery, ortho/spine, gender affirmation surgeries, laparoscopic surgery, general surgery, trauma, and more!

Am I Qualified:

Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse
RN degree from a nationally accredited college or university
Current BLS certification; other certifications may be required in specific units to practice

Minimum of two years clinical nursing experience as an RN in the Operating Room preferred
Response time for call shifts is 30 minutes

Scheduling:

We currently have openings for full time, varied shift opportunities. These openings are typically 12-hour shifts, but on occasion can be offered in 8 or 10-hour shifts.

This comes with night and weekend call requirements.

While in a scrub role, assist the surgical team by donning sterile masks, gloves and gowns as well as aid the surgeon by passing instruments during the procedure. Apply sterile techniques in handling medical instruments and equipment pre-, during, and post-surgery. Use and troubleshoot medical equipment safely and effectively to carry out planned nursing interventions, assist staff and obtain equipment needed. Post procedure, clear tools, prepare the patient for transport to recovery, and provide report to the recovery RN. Assist with the ordering, maintenance, and safe storage of surgical equipment and supplies. Perform other duties inside the surgical room that ensure safe and effective care. Accurately and timely document patient care to ensure proper post-procedure follow up and billing of services. Provide continued education on unit as needed and assist with orientation and training of new employees. Serve on call for rotating weekend, holiday and weeknights as needed.
