Registered Nurse - Perioperative OR- Full Time

Summary of Position: 

Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the OR and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. The Perioperative RN is responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients in the surgery departments, including Lake Tahoe Surgery Center, utilizing established policies and procedures, ensuring safe and effective care. This RN functions as a circulating nurse, assisting the surgical team during procedures, accurately and according to policy. Services are provided based on the ages of the population served as defined by each department’s Scope of Services and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. The RN demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and meet the individualized needs of all patients served in surgery departments.

 

Qualifications

Education:

● Completion of an accredited Nursing program.

● Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

 

Experience:

● Previous OR experience highly preferred

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

● Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

● Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

● Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system.

● In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred.

 

Certifications/Licensure:

● If California is your primary home dept, then California RN license required and obtain Nevada RN within 6 months.

● If Nevada is your primary home dept, then Nevada RN license required and obtain California RN within 6 months.

● Current CPR/BLS certification by the American Heart Association (BLS for the   Healthcare Provider) required.

● ACLS Certification required; New Grad RN, must obtain ACLS within 6 months.

● PALS certification preferred.

● Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) preferred.

Essential Functions

1. Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.

2. Provides patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with others as required and adjusts care plan as necessary to ensure optimal care.

3. Accurately and safely administers sedation/analgesia, monitor patients’ responses, ensure patient safety during procedure and document according to policy & procedure.

4. Performs systems assessment at designated and appropriate intervals on all assigned patients,recognizing disturbed physiology and abnormal parameters.

5. Assesses pain levels on all patients. 

6. Assesses patients and develops an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.

7. Medication administration is safe, accurate and timely.

8. Monitors patient reaction to physician orders. Reports any untoward change in patient condition to appropriate individual(s). Correctly and concisely reports patient status.

9. Recognizes unusual conditions outside of his/her expertise and seeks guidance of coworkers or supervisor. 

10. Functions as a circulating nurse

11. Accurately communicates with surgical technologist all pertinent information regardingimplants (size, type, product, and serial numbers) and documents this information in the implant log. Collaborates with surgical technologist to accurately complete implant/explantlogs.

12. Monitors and ensures accuracy of documentation in patient medical record. 

13. Orients, instructs and trains assigned personnel.

14. Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures that practice is compliant with standards. 

15. Environmental services duties to include cleaning of the operating area. 

16. Maintain required competencies.

17. Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
