Surgical Intensive Care Registered Nurse
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). As an integral part of our 17-bed unit, you will provide specialized care to critically ill adult patients. Our patient population includes individuals recovering from liver, pancreas, and kidney transplants, neurosurgeries, vascular surgeries, major abdominal surgeries, and other complex cases requiring intensive care needs. Specialized training during the orientation process will also prepare you to run Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), perform Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE), initiate and maintain therapeutic hypothermia, recover patients after complex oral and maxillofacial surgeries, as well as assist providers with bedside procedures, both routine and emergent.
Responsibilities
- Critical Patient Care: Monitor and assess patients’ conditions closely. Patients on our unit often require ventilator support, cardiac monitoring, arterial lines, frequent titration of multiple vasoactive medications, external ventricular drainage, intracranial pressure monitoring, and other invasive lines and monitoring.
- Clinical Judgment: Exhibit critical thinking and decision-making skills. Assess patient needs, anticipate complications, and respond promptly to changes in condition.
- Effective Communication: Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team. Your voice matters.
- Patient-Focused Approach: Engage patients and their families in care planning. Our nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, allowing for personalized attention and interdisciplinary coordination of goals. We involve patients and their families in every step of the journey.
- Documentation: Demonstrate accurate assessment and charting skills. Maintain thorough and organized records. Details matter, especially in critical care.
- Compassion: You'll be more than a caregiver — you'll be a lifeline. Your empathy and emotional support during difficult moments makes a difference.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) License: Valid and current RN license.
- Critical Care Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in an intensive care or surgical intensive care setting. New graduates with a critical care rotation during their nursing program are also welcome.
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required (can be obtained through our Training and Development Center).
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Compassion and Empathy: Provide emotional support to patients and their families during challenging times.
- Team Player: Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team.
- Positive Attitude: Maintain a positive and supportive demeanor.
- Self-Motivated: Take initiative and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Lifelong Learner: We believe in continuous learning. Whether you’re a seasoned nurse or fresh out of school, there’s always room to expand your knowledge.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Structured 16-week orientation program for new graduates and those new to critical care practice.
- Nurse Residency Program to help guide new nurses through the transition into practice, ensuring you feel confident and supported during your first year as an RN.
- Opportunities for growth and advancement.
- Tuition reimbursement
- Supportive work environment focused on complex, patient-centered care.
Join our close-knit team and make a difference in the lives of critically ill patients! We are dedicated to providing exceptional care to our patients with compassion and expertise. We celebrate victories together, support each other during challenges, and build lasting connections with our patients, their families, and each other. We'd love to welcome you to our incredible team! 🌟
