We are seeking a skilled Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our  inpatient team. The successful candidate will manage the comprehensive care of post-operative orthopedic patients from their initial recovery phase to final discharge coordination. This role involves performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests to monitor recovery and identify complications, and collaborating closely with our orthopedic surgeons to formulate and execute effective, patient-centered treatment and rehabilitation plans. The NP will focus on wound care, early mobilization, and patient and family education to ensure a smooth transition of care and prevent readmissions in our fast-paced, high-volume environment. 

 

 


Overview

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

Role Purpose

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who utilizes a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in a specialized patient care area. This position assesses, diagnose, prescribes, initiates plan of care and evaluates outcomes within the scope of a formal collaborative practice agreement with physician(s).

 

Responsibilities

  • Participates in professional development
  • Manages the health care of patient populations with compassion through advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician. Prescriptive responsibilities are reviewed by collaborative physician.
  • Coordinates the care of patient populations, in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician, to ensure promotion of health and wellness through education of patients and families, coordination of services and placing referrals.
  • Assesses development needs of staff and develops and delivers appropriate educational programs to meet staff needs.
  • Develops treatment plans, treats patients with acute problems including illnesses and minor injuries following a predetermined protocol in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician.

Qualifications Qualifications: Licensed to provide either advanced practice nursing services in the State of Illinois as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act OR physician assistant services as issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in accordance with the Illinois Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987. Licensed by the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and State of Illinois for prescribing of narcotics. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Excellent clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient-centered focus. Prior experience in wound care, dermatology, vascular surgery, or related clinical specialty is preferred but new graduates will be considered.
