Position Overview:


Performs as staff nurse/RN in medical oncology office and infusion area.

Essential Functions:


a) Assesses patient for vital signs, height/weight, allergies, medications, chemotherapy side effects, changes in condition, and other patient complaints.

b) Assists physician with procedures.

c) Performs peripheral venipuncture and accesses intravenous vascular access devices/ports.

d) Triages patient problems, resolves problems, or makes appropriate referrals.

e) Instructs patients and families on chemotherapy side effects and management strategies.

f) Assists patient with coordination of multiple appointments and to understand complex instructions.

g) Does continuous patient education and reinforcement of information.

h) Documents care accurately to maintain effective communication and billing.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:


Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.

Qualifications & Skills:

a) Education: High school graduate or GED, graduation from accredited school of nursing.


b) Training & Experience: Current Colorado RN license; prefer previous experience in inpatient medical nursing, oncology nursing, medical office nursing, chemotherapy administration, and venipuncture. Preference for OCN and ONS Chemotherapy Administration Certification. Must be BCLS certified.


c) Job Knowledge: medical surgical acute care nursing, chemotherapy administration and side effects, office nursing processes and procedures, blood draws

What does the Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse (RN) do? Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Must recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care and participates in company-wide quality initiatives. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities: Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material. Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician. Administers all medications/blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time and technique. Assures pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to administration of therapies where applicable. Facilitates dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems and symptom management Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central lines catheter devices.
