CentralCare is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to provide full-time services at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Cavazos, Texas. This is a great opportunity for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to support our military and their families as civilian contractors (no military service required). 

A Texas medical license is required for this position. If you do not currently hold a Texas license, we are happy to assist with the licensing process.

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Details:

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Experience:

The contract CRNA shall…

  • Have two years’ experience in the last three years, prior to contract execution, as a CRNA (outside of training).
  • Be able to close encounters within seventy-two (72) hours of the patient encounter.
  • Have experience in the delivery of and monitoring of all types of anesthesia utilized in the delivery of obstetrical, epidural labor, and surgical anesthesia (i.e. general endotracheal, subarachnoid block and epidural, and IV regional techniques).
  • Have current experience (3 months or more in the past 12 months) in all anesthesia techniques.

 

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical duties equivalent to military/government CRNAs of similar experience within the assigned MTF unit.
  • Primarily perform duties in the main OR, with limited obstetrical anesthesia responsibilities (including but not limited to epidural for elective, non-elective, and emergency obstetrical procedures).
  • Maintain professional practice standards equivalent to physicians in the same discipline. 
  • Perform duties within MTF-granted clinical privileges and based on service demand.
  • Maintain productivity comparable to other CRNAs with similar scope of practice.
  • Workload scheduled by the MTF.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking) for effective communication with patients and staff.
  • Meet all CME requirements at personal expense.
  • Maintain OSHA training, provide documentation to the COR.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen (or meet AR 25-2)
  • Proficient in computer use (Microsoft), and possess strong interpersonal skills for diverse patient interactions. MTF provides system-specific training.
  • Sufficient experienced in obstetrical and surgical anesthesia (general endotracheal, subarachnoid block and epidural, and IV regional techniques); maintain current certifications; obtain/maintain CRDAMC privileges; invoice for actual hours worked (subject to patient census and mission needs).
  • Manage all aspects of anesthesia care, including pre/post-op evaluations and preparations, administer monitored anesthesia care, regional and general anesthesia, monitor and manage patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, manage fluid therapy, perform and manage invasive monitoring, as privileged by the MTF.
  • Conduct pre-anesthetic assessments/evaluation of patient, obtain informed consent, and order necessary pre-anesthetic medications/consults.
  • Develop and implement anesthetic care plans.
  • Conduct pre-induction assessments, including medical record review, lab data, medication review, and patient condition updates, noting prior anesthetic experiences and complications.
  • Monitor anesthesia care, management of patient anesthesia experience, and performing preoperative evaluations and preparations, administering Spinal, Epidural, Bier Block, Axillary Block, and other regional anesthesia, and general anesthetics monitoring patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, managing fluid therapy, and performing post-operative evaluations. Advise Anesthesiologist or attending physician of adverse reactions necessitating non-delegated medical decisions; takes appropriate actions as directed or required.
  • Maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis and corrects abnormal responses to the anesthesia and/or surgery.
  • Collect and interpret patient physiological data via noninvasive monitoring.
  • Manage the patient's airway and pulmonary status.
  • Manage patient emergence and recovery, including pain/complication management, via medication, fluids, or ventilator support.
  • Document all anesthesia-related events, including agent dosages, fluids, and blood components.
  • Document post-anesthetic visits, noting any complications.
  • Serve as a resource and assist in training staff and student nurse anesthetists in clinical phases.
  • Adhere to CDC and MTF infection control guidelines.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of anesthesia equipment.

 

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Qualifications:

  • Degree: Master's degree in nursing.
  • Education: Graduate from an academic program, approved by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs (COA).
  • Must have and maintain certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetist. Certified as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) or the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA). 
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
  • Active BLS, PALS, and ACLS.
  • Must meet continuing medical education (CME) requirements
