Research Nurse I

Summary Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Immunology, Allergy and Retrovirology Service at Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized individual to join the HIV Research Program. We seek a professional nurse who possesses basic general knowledge of nursing practices, provides professional nursing skills involving Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in clinical research and is responsible for following procedures as described in research protocols and according to site and sponsor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Duties include screening, enrolling participants, obtaining blood and other specimens for tests, administering medications, recording data for research analysis, and maintaining patient records. The nurse should ensure accurate data collection, documentation, and is responsible for organization and attention to safety for research visits. The Research Nurse I will be responsible for coordinating day to day activities for a number of research protocols in the HIV Research Program and especially in the Adolescent Trials Network. The ATN network, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) addresses two critical pediatric HIV research questions: The prevention of HIV in people from at-risk communities. The management of HIV infection in adolescents and young adults. This position will be working with adolescents and young adults from the LGBTQ community and will need to provide culturally competent care. Job Duties Documents clinical research data in electronic data capture (EDC). Answers queries in accordance with protocol requirements. Provides outreach in the community to enhance enrollment. Regularly provides updates, follow-ups on projects and ensures deadlines are met by all stakeholders as required. Works with Principal Investigator and CRA Regulatory Coordinator on both local, central and commercial Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, including but not limited to new protocol submission, amendments and renewals. Attends conference calls/answer emails as required by the study sponsor and relay the information to the study staff. May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocol. Collects study specimens and check subjects’ vital signs. Performs study related procedures as outlined in the protocols such as administers questionnaires and conducts interviews. Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service. Adheres to the scope of practices as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Recruits, screens, enrolls and evaluate patients that participate in NIH funded HIV research studies in children, adolescents and women. Schedules study visits and meetings related to studies. Administers study medications. Abstracts information from medical records according to the protocols. Ensures the clinical studies are conducted in accordance with guidelines of the FDA and other regulatory agencies. Educates patients in significant aspects of study. Serves as a liaison and distributes research information to faculty, research staff, principle investigator, and others as required. Maintains clean and safe work environment. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. No experience required. Nurse Care Manager

Summary The Nurse Care Manager serves as a member of the Care Navigation team serving high-touch Baylor constituents, special patient populations, and corporate clients, facilitating an optimal patient experience. Coordinates full facilitation and case management of incoming patients and bridges communications efficiently between patients, physicians, multiple providers, clinical staff, and external resources. The ideal candidat must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and have the ability to teach, analyze and problem solve with relative ease. Should also have experience with special patient populations (executives, donors, international patients, and other constituents). This position is also located at our McNair and Woodlands Campus. Additionally, will work remotely one day a week. Instructor - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Summary This position offers a unique experience in our community pediatric intensive care units, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric intensive care. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners/physician assistants), committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Woodlands Campus, an extension of the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, and an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. Currently, the critical care intensive care units in the community have capacity for 14 patients. The NP/Instructor will work alongside Faculty colleagues, advanced practice providers, and occasionally pediatric residents in the care of children with chronic and acute illness requiring intensive care in the PICU. The woodlands PICU opened in April 2017 and provides assisted ventilation or other advanced support, such as oscillatory ventilation, nitric oxide administration or cardiovascular pressor support. The community ICU also provides care for children who require long-term technology support, those with residual PICU morbidities requiring transition to home, and the management of children who require more intensive medical support. Role responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Day-to-day care of children with acute and chronic illness requiring critical care. Active role in education of trainees when present. Participation in on-call schedule for the pediatric intensive care unit. Liaison and collaboration with stakeholders and consult throughout the community hospital. Summary The Texas Nurse-Family Partnership pairs registered nurses with low-income, first-time mothers to improve prenatal care and provide one-on-one child development education and counseling. Women are enrolled early in the second trimester of their pregnancy, and a nurse begins visiting them. Visits, which usually occur in the family's home, continue throughout the pregnancy and until the child is two years old. The nurses provide support, education, and counseling on health, parenting, developmental issues and life skills. This position may require flexible hours which include evening hours. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication, organization, and time management skills. They will be non-judgmental, emotionally regulated under stress, and possess a calm yet engaging presence that fosters connection.
