Description

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the management of nursing practice and operations on a designated unit/service.  This includes, but is not limited to, the management of: clinical nursing practice, staff recruitment, retention, labor relations, supply chain and budget, staffing, employee performance evaluation, quality improvement, staff education, medical records, internal and external regulatory and survey requirements. 

The Nurse Manager I collaborates with multiple professionals to support and coordinate the provision / management of patient care. He or she works closely with the Nursing Clinical Director, Physician Leader and staff in ensuring that the Service/Unit maintains the highest standards of patient care and is responsive to the needs of the patient & family as well as the organization.


Responsibilities

A. Clinical/Technical/Service 
1.   Responsible to the Nursing Supervisor of the given division
2.   Functions in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, the current Federal and State Regulations governing the use and dispensing of methadone, the guidelines for patient care set by the Program’s Administration and the philosophy of the Patient Care Services Department of the hospital
3.   Maintains standards of nursing care and practice by supervising and evaluating nursing personnel
4.   Plans, directs, coordinates, evaluates and facilitates the delivery of nursing care through the creative utilization of professional nursing expertise
5.   Recognizes patient’s problems and participates in their resolution
6.   Contributes toward the maintenance of a professional setting that allows for growth and development of patients and staff
7.   Participates in formulating, interpreting, and implementing nursing service programs
8.   Periodically reviews with nursing staff the maintenance of complete and accurate patient-care and narcotic records
9.   Participates in the orientation and evaluation of new nursing staff
10.   Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned area

15.   Interprets the hospitals nursing policy and standards relative to patient care in clinics
16.   Oversees the assignment/delegation of nursing functions and responsibilities in assigned clinics in the absence of the Head/Charge Nurse
17.   Supervises and evaluates nursing staff performance with the Charge Nurse and Nursing Supervisor
18.   Assists the Division Nursing Supervisor in monitoring nursing staff attendance and adherence to program policies
19.   Participates in counseling and disciplining of staff, when appropriate
20.   Monitors all security aspects of the medication process
21.   Reviews patient and narcotic records in a timely manner
22.   Monitors availability and maintenance of nursing equipment and supplies in the clinic(s)
23.   Interviews prospective employees and collaborates with the Division Nursing Supervisor in evaluating their personal attributes and professional qualifications
C. Educational/Professional Development
24.   Participates in the development of other staff members

Qualifications

Education Requirements

Bachelors of Science with a major in nursing is required

Master’s degree in nursing or healthcare-related field, or be enrolled in a program, preferred

Experience Requirements

3-5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience demonstrating solid management abilities.

Proven clinical and nursing administrative expertise in the assigned nursing practice area.

Critical thinking and organizational skills are essential.

Must possess relevant clinical expertise in the specialized field.

Licensing and Certification Requirements (if applicable)

Licensed as a registered nurse, Issuing Agency: Department of Health/Office of Professions in the state of New York.

Child abuse certification is required

Infection control certification is required

Basic Life Support (BLS) Issuing Agency: AHA is required

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Issuing Agency: AHA 

Professional Board Certification in leadership and/or clinical specialty is preferred.

Position Overview As the RN Supervisor , you will serve as a leader during the overnight shift, supporting the Director of Nursing (DON) and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON). You will oversee the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department, ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and provide guidance to nursing staff to ensure residents receive the highest standard of care. Key Responsibilities Supervise, support, and evaluate nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, and CNAs). Assist DON/ADON in planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing services. Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and facility regulations. Participate in facility surveys, inspections, and Quality Assurance meetings. Monitor and assess residents, providing interventions for changes in condition. Oversee care planning, documentation, and MDS completion. Conduct daily rounds to monitor staff performance and resident care. Handle complaints, grievances, and incident investigations. Support staffing decisions to ensure proper coverage and continuity of care. Collaborate with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Qualifications Experience: Minimum 2 years as a nursing supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related setting; at least 6 months of experience in rehabilitative/restorative nursing practices. Licensure: Active, unencumbered RN license in the state of New Jersey. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
