About The Career:

  • Circulator Duties: During the pre-, intra- and post-op phase, the circulating registered nurse: coordinates the activities of the room, assembles necessary equipment, delegates activities to other team members, implements the nursing process and care plan, serves as the patient advocate, assures a safe environment for the patient, completes documentation accurately, completes a correct sponge, needle and instrument count, informs PACU of special needs.

  • The Surgical Services Department at Montrose Regional Health is committed to provide quality surgical services and improve the quality of life for our patients. We provide surgical services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

All About You:

  • At least 1 year experience as an Registered Nurse in the Operating Room (preferred).
  • Current Colorado or compact state RN license or ability to become licensed.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor's, Associated, or Diploma in Nursing.
  • BLS required upon hire. ACLS and PALS or ENPC within 9-months.
  • Experience is preferred.
  • Certified in OR is recommended.

Position will be classified as a 1.0 full-time FTE and will accrue PTO and EIB benefits and be eligible to participate in other benefits available to full-time employees such as health benefits and 401k retirement benefits. Registered Nurse, First Assist - OR - Full Time, Days

Position Overview: The registered nurse first assist assists the surgeon during a surgical procedure carrying out functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation. The non-physician first assistant practices under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Must demonstrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and other cognitive education with additional education in the use of surgical instruments on tissue versus the handling of instruments. Essential Functions : a) Works closely with the OR Coordinator to insure no conflicts in the OR schedule or individual cases occur. b) Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique relative to the operative procedure. Must possess advanced knowledge of surgical technique. c) Responsible for assuring that all supplies and equipment are available for a surgical case in collaboration with other OR team members. d) Perioperative behaviors unique to the registered nurse first assistant may include but not be limited to: focused perioperative nursing assessments, collaboration with other health care providers regarding the patient plan of care; and e) intraoperative performance of surgical first assistant techniques such as: using surgical instruments and medical devices, handling and/or cutting tissue, providing surgical site exposure, suturing and knot tying, providing hemostasis, wound healing/wound closure, and dressing techniques; and f) postoperative patient management in collaboration with other health care providers in the immediate postoperative period and beyond, such as: participating in postoperative rounds and assisting with patient discharge planning and identifying appropriate community resources as needed. g) Other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Skills: a) Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program with Colorado State Board of Nursing licensure as a Registered Nurse. Must have completed an approved surgical first assistant program for registered nurses. b) Training & Experience: Experience is preferred. Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) is preferred. Active membership in professional perioperative nursing organization (AORN) recommended. BCLS certification required upon hire. ACLS recommended.
