Nurse Manager-Inpatient Neuro Critical Care and Neuro Intermediate Care Units-Gainesville Campus

About the Role: Job Summary The Nurse Manager (NM) functions as the first-line administrative nurse leader with primary responsibility for overseeing daily patient care operations and budget with 24-hour accountability for care delivery of assigned unit(s). The Nurse Manager must be able to navigate proficiently within the electronic health record and other technological systems, and he/she is required to frequently apply a set of management principles to ensure smooth operations of the department. The Nurse Manager must be capable of independent judgement and decision-making in the areas of budget, personnel, patient services, physician relations, and administrative or professional programs. He/she must be able to clinically assist with patient care and be able to function in the charge role if needed. The Nurse Manager coordinates, evaluates and resolves problems and conflicts as they occur. With support from Charge Nurses, educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and other nursing support personnel, the Nurse Manager directly supervises the clinical nursing and ancillary personnel assigned to his/her respective unit(s). He/she ensures and is accountable for the effective daily operation of the nursing unit on 24/7 basis by monitoring all activities necessary to provide consistent high quality patient care, including staffing, equipment, supplies, and services. The Nurse Manager has knowledge of and adheres to the policies, procedures, and regulations that govern nursing practice and must exercise sound, independent judgment in adapting and applying leadership and clinical principles to specific situations as needed. The Nurse Manager relies on experience, judgment, and collaboration with other nurse leaders to plan and accomplish goals. Additionally, the Nurse Manager assists in the advancement of the professional practice environment by communicating the NGHS nursing strategic direction and focuses on activities that support the nursing strategic plan. The Nurse Manager ensures nursing involvement and support for the Professional Nursing Governance structure, including a vibrant Unit Practice Council. The Nurse Manager develops and submits to Director/Executive Director/CNO appropriate capital and operating budgets for approval and is accountable for the achievement of capital and operating budget objectives within areas of responsibility. In conjunction with the Human Resources Department, the Nurse Manager determines human resource needs and develops or assists in the development of programs to maintain and improve the quality and efficiency of the assigned department. He/she recruits, hires, orients, and evaluates performance of all assigned personnel to assure the department is staffed with team members who reflect behaviors and performance consistent with the hospital's mission, vision, and values. The Nurse Manager has the authority to hire, terminate and/or take other disciplinary action as may be deemed appropriate in accordance with hospital policy. He/she develops and administers a master staffing plan for assigned areas in conjunction with approved budget. The Nurse Manager identifies educational and training needs of departmental staff or individual(s) impacting assigned functions and plans with other appropriate staff members for the implementation of training needs. Lastly, the Nurse Manager ensures nursing unit(s) is in a state of continued regulatory readiness by adhering to all appropriate legal and ethical requirements necessary to maintain hospital accreditation and corporate compliance. Minimum Job Qualifications Licensure or other certifications: Licensed to practice as an RN in Georgia. Professional certification in either a clinical or leadership specialty within two years of hire. Educational Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, A degree in Nursing (either BSN or MSN). Assistant Nurse Manager - Pediatrics - Full Time Evening/Nights

About the Role: Job Summary The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM), under the direct and indirect supervision of the Director, facilitates and assists with all levels of nursing care provided to patients within a nursing unit or practice location. The ANM will assist Clinical Nurses with day-to-day problem solving and will facilitate communication between care team providers. He/She coordinates, elevates and resolves problems and conflicts as they occur. The ANM has shift accountability for care delivery, patient flow, matching patient needs with available resources and elevates patient safety concerns/situations as well as any other situation that is unable to be resolved during the shift. In this role, the ANM will coordinate the activities of nursing staff, is accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff including stat orders, treatments, plans of care, and clinical pathways are carried out in a consistent manner. The ANM provides expert patient care. The ANM role is critical to improving the quality of care provided as evidenced by the Nursing Sensitive Indicators, as well as ensuring an exceptional patient and family experience on the individual nursing unit/practice setting. The ANM has shift responsibility a minimum of 75% of worked hours and administrative accountability the other 25%. Administrative duties include staffing and scheduling, unit staff selection, retention and performance management, including coaching and counseling. The ANM role serves as a succession plan for the Director role. Supports the organization's "customer-centric" service program. Conducts daily rounds on the unit to identify and address patient/family/physician concerns. Interfaces with patients and families to ensure that care is consistent with their expectations and the organization's quality and customer service expectations. Assesses, coaches and evaluates staff’s level of clinical practice. Ensures that nurses are current in competency, assessments, licensure, certifications, and other annual training. Actively works with his/her leadership team to coach staff, recommends and design education and training to meet the clinical needs of the patients/staff served by the unit. Routinely interacts with physician customers. Supports his/her nursing staff in maintaining effective and positive interactions with physicians. Coordinates communication between unit team members and attending physicians or clinical ancillary staff to ensure appropriateness of care and outcome planning for the patients on their unit(s). Coordinates activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of subordinate employees. Participates actively in the planning and distribution of patient assignments. Attends daily bed huddles during shift and facilitates decision-making with respect to patient flow. Maintains regular ongoing contact/communication with all levels of nursing staff. Responsible for working with leadership team to identify employee strengths, development needs, skills, interpersonal and personal style and relate those to the business needs and challenges faced by the team. Actively supports and promotes a professional practice model that encourages staff participation in the development of clinical standards, and is collaborative, collegial and utilizes best practice research. Ensures compliance with established hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality controls and regulatory standards and requirements. Oversees completion of unit specific administrative tasks (i.e., PI audits, code cart). Knowledgeable of organizational policies with respect to work rules and discipline and is responsible for providing progressive discipline to employee when indicated. Provides direct patient care as needed and is responsible for assessing, planning, and evaluating patients; remains informed about the status of all patient during the shift. Proactively addresses potential customer service issues. Engages directly with physician and staff to ensure adherence to evidence-based practice standards as wells as organizational priorities to meet pillar metrics associated with safety-quality, service excellence, employee and physician engagement and throughput. Monitors staff performance/competency and provides feedback in timely manner. Assesses effectiveness of the staffing plan/assignments taking into consideration the acuity of the patient and the budgeted labor standards. Conducts/completes environment of care assessment.
