A Dialysis Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care at one of DCI’s in-center hemodialysis units as part of a patient care team. Our RNs are integral in ensuring safe care and the highest quality outcomes are prioritized for every patient. Schedule : Full-time, four 10 hour shifts starting at 5am; Sundays off; no overnight shifts This position will cross train in the acute program. The Dialysis Hospital Services Nurse (Acute RN) provides specialized dialysis, renal nursing care, and if contractually required, plasmapheresis treatments in our Kindred / Lyerly acute hemodialysis unit. The Acute RN collaborates with hospital and outpatient care team members to ensure patients receive the safest care with the highest-quality outcomes. Schedule: Full-time, three 12-hour shifts starting at 4:30am. Some positions are on call 24/7, and rotating call may be required at some locations. The Dialysis RN works in collaboration with all clinic team members to ensure every patient receives the safest care with the highest quality outcomes. Responsibilities Performs hemodialysis treatments in accordance with approved facility policies and procedures. Prior to initiation of dialysis, ensures dialysis machine, its alarms, and all products used during treatment are prepped and meet DCI's quality standards. Monitors the patient during dialysis, assessing any emergent changes in the patient's condition and communicating any issues to the physician as well as the patient's family. Administers and charts all prescribed pre, intra and post dialysis medications. Follows CDC/CMS regulations with strict reinforcement of infection control. Participates in patient care conferences, medical rounds and chart reviews as assigned. Documents patient education to ensure compliance with local ESRD Network, CMS, and DCI requirements. Interacts with local hospitals as a liaison to facilitate continuity of care. Assists in teaching and training new staff members as directed by the Nurse Manager. Collaborates with all staff members and renal team members to maintain medication inventory Ensures the dialysis machines are functioning properly and maintains an adequate stocking of unit supplies. Qualifications A Degree from an accredited Nursing Program is required. ASN/BSN New Graduate Registered Nurses are welcome and encouraged to apply. In collaboration with the Clinic Administrator, review of patient flow sheets is completed at end of day as well as spot checks during the day; verifying documentation accuracy for decreased blood flow rates, other prescription changes, early discontinuation, and fluctuations in blood pressure with notification to charge nurse. Audit flowsheets to ensure transcription and implementation of Physician’s orders is completed. Participate in QAPI and supports outcome management through appropriate action plans. Collaborate with the Clinic Administrator for patient care staffing, matching patient needs with staff capabilities and experiences to maximize staffing resources. Collaborate with the Clinic Administrator on the scheduling of patients to ensure all patients are treated in a timely manner. Assist in the teaching and training of new staff members as directed by the Nurse Educator - i.e., machines, ROS, procedures etc. Act as the Subject Matter Expert and assist nurse educator with training for staff in all clinical systems. Ensure vascular access management for the patients is documented as needed. The Dialysis Hospital Services Nurse (Acute RN) provides specialized dialysis, renal nursing care, and if contractually required, plasmapheresis treatments in our SUNY and Crouse acute hemodialysis unit. The Acute RN collaborates with hospital and outpatient care team members to ensure patients receive the safest care with the highest-quality outcomes. Schedule: Potential fulltime shifts vary from four 10-hour shifts, 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Weekly on call required. Compensation: Pay range from $36.00-$52.00 depending on nursing and dialysis experience; experience preferred Benefits: Paid 12-week training with preceptor Comprehensive medical, dental and vision benefits Life and long-term disability insurance provided at no additional expense to employee Paid time off (PTO) including holidays Extended Sick Bank (ESB) in addition to PTO – paid time for doctor appointments, sickness or medical leave Retirement plans with $.50 of each contributed dollar matched for eligible employees, up to 8 percent Education reimbursement Employee assistance program Wellness program Among others Responsibilities What You Can Expect: Prepare and monitor equipment used for intermittent or continuous dialysis and water treatment in the acute setting, including quality control checks Perform and document pre-, intra- and post-dialysis assessments Initiate, monitor and terminate dialysis treatments per established policies and procedures Dispense medication as ordered and document per policy and procedure in hospital medical record Administer blood and blood products per hospital policy and procedure Accurately receive, transcribe and implement written and verbal orders from physicians Access lab reports, interpret and report necessary information to nephrologist Provide renal education to patients and family members and document appropriately Serve as primary dialysis contact for nephrologists and hospital staff and liaison to outpatient dialysis center Adhere to DCI and hospital policies and procedures including proper completion of occurrence reports as necessary Additional tasks as necessary Qualifications Successful Candidates Bring: Excellent communication skills Demonstrated clinical proficiency Desire to collaborate with care teams Ability to problem solve Customer service mindset in communicating with patients, team members and partner hospital Education/Training: Current New York RN license required Six months’ dialysis and/or critical care nursing experience preferred, job shadow opportunities available Current CPR and BLS certifications DCI’s Differentiator: Since opening the first clinic 50 years ago in Nashville, Tenn., our Dialysis Clinic, Inc. family has grown to be the nation’s largest nonprofit dialysis provider with more than 270 locations in 30 states, serving nearly 14,000 patients each day.
