Overview Overview: The Advanced Practice Provider, Oncology (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is an integral member of the oncology care team, responsible for providing comprehensive and compassionate care to a diverse patient population. The APP performs assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of patients with cancer and related conditions, in collaboration with physicians and the multidisciplinary care team. This position involves coordination of care across the continuum, including outpatient and inpatient and emphasizes evidence-based practice, patient education, and quality improvement. Conducts comprehensive health assessments, including physical exams, history taking, and diagnostic evaluations. Formulates and implements treatment plans for oncology patients in collaboration with collaborating physicians and the care team. Involved in lung cancer screening program, lung cancer clinic, and rapid diagnostic clinic. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests and imaging results. Provides ongoing evaluation of patients’ response to treatment and adjusts care plans as indicated. Educates patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment options, side effects, and supportive care. Participates in clinical rounds, tumor boards, and interdisciplinary care conferences. Coordinates referrals and follow-up care to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
