The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for performing routine clinical and administrative tasks. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications. Administrative duties may include answering phone calls, registering new patients, scheduling appointments, and collecting and posting fees. The float MA must be adaptable and comfortable to work in different environments and be willing to cover at any location within the organization with minimal notice. Responsibilities: Interview patients to obtain medical information and confirm purpose of visit. Copy immunization cards of all new children or, if none available in chart, of established patients. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms stocked, neat and clean. Sterilize instruments following sterilization guidelines and maintain accurate logs. Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; and taking blood pressure, height, weight, and temperature. Record patients' medical history, vital signs, and information such as test results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Assist medical staff in examining and treating patients, handing them instruments and materials, or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing sutures.
