Job Summary In the ICU of a hospital, patients are often in critical condition and need constant monitoring and care. ICU nurses review data from special equipment to track a patient’s heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other vitals. They also carry out more traditional nursing duties such as administering medications and communicating with patients regarding their condition. Essential Functions Performs a thorough and timely assessment of patient’s condition including physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative aspects. Identifies problems/nursing needs including discharge needs. Intervenes appropriately to address identified problems and needs. Evaluates effectiveness of care and revises plan if necessary. Transcribes, verifies and carries out physician orders in an accurate and timely manner Manages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately. Initiates and effectively maintains IV therapy.
