Overview The Department of OBGYN at Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking an outstanding Medical Assistan t to join the team. This position is responsible for front and back office procedures. This position also assists Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers with medical examination of patients. Responsibilities Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure and enters into EHR. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician or RN. Reviews intake forms with the MD/NP/PA when needed to determine what services best suit the patient. Manages specimens that are being picked up and drop off. Chaperones when appropriate and assists during certain minor surgeries and diagnostic procedures (such as Hysteroscopies). Overview General Obstetrics & Gynecology nurse practitioners’ function in an expanded nursing role and perform selected tasks and services previously within the province of medicine as well as tasks that fall within the province of nursing. Nursing and medicine must maintain ongoing collaboration in education and practice so that the nurse practitioner is maximally effective in meeting the primary health-care needs of women. Overview The Department of Medicine has developed a Comprehensive Sickle Cell Program in collaboration with the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Psychiatry. This program is supported by EVMS and Sentara Health. The goal of this program is to provide top-notch outpatient and inpatient clinical care to patients with sickle cell disease. We are looking for Advanced Practice Providers (APP), a nurse practitioner (NP) or a physician assistant (PA), who will function as a clinical provider in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Medicine. The APP will participate in all aspects of patient care and will participate in the supporting roles of consultant and educator as indicated. The clinical practice will mostly focus on clinical care of patients with Sickle Cell Disease in the hospital and in the outpatient clinic under supervision of clinical faculty. The clinical practice may also include provision of primary care to all types of patients. Responsibilities Independently assess, diagnose, & develop treatment plans for patients with sickle cell disease as well as patients in the area of Primary Care in accordance with protocols and standards of care. Promote a schedule of health promotion examinations and interventions in our patient population Obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, and prescribe, dispense or deliver medications under a collaborative practice agreement. As an integral part of our team, the APP holds the responsibility of delivering top-notch patient care and medical services to individuals, families, and/or groups within the hospital setting. This includes working independently and collaboratively with a sponsoring physician, and internal medicine residency program teaching teams, providing a wide range of health care services. The scope of practice encompasses conducting thorough health assessments, diagnosing medical conditions, developing personalized medical plans of care, and prescribing/providing treatments and interventions. APP will also play a key role in evaluating patient responses, making referrals, and adeptly managing both acute and stable chronic illnesses. This position offers a unique opportunity to work independently during overnight shifts, showcasing autonomy and expertise. APPs will have access to remote physician support as needed, ensuring a collaborative and supportive environment. Will include a night shift differential in pay. Overview For a professional Registered Nurse to provide outpatient nursing care and assistance to our providers in the Endocrine Clinic and the Strelitz Diabetes Center. The patient population include diabetes and its comorbidities (hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity etc) as well as thyroid, osteoporosis, pituitary, adrenal, and other hormonal disorders. Must be able to independently perform clinical and administrative duties. Coordinate patient care by; reporting test results, assessment of patient status, educational needs, patient education and follow-up care. Responsibilities Contribute to the well-being of the patients by serving as a positive role model and demonstrating a professional, caring attitude, and behavior towards coworkers and patients. Review, work, and complete tasks assigned to you and other team tasks. This will include responding to patient messages, prescription refills, lab results, referrals, home health agencies, medication prior authorizations, patient forms and follow up from physicians in a professional and timely manner Notify patient of test/lab results and answer any questions regarding those results and any physician orders. Assist patients with medication questions and clarification dosing. Appropriately and timely document all nursing intervention, including phone conversations into the patient’s electronic health record. Provide back -up to the providers in the clinic as necessary, triaging patients by obtaining vital signs, reconciling medication and allergy list, determining chief complaint and downloading pumps and continuous glucose sensors as needed. Overview The Nurse Manager is responsible for management of clinical services of the Minimally Invasive Gynecology Surgery (MIGS) Division, within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN). The Nurse Manager works closely with the MIGS Division Director, MIGS Practice Manager, and Department Administrator to develop, implement, and maintain clinical programs that enhance the quality of care and achieve a high level of patient and provider satisfaction. The Nurse Manager is primarily responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations and oversight of the MIGS Division in both Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg. The Nurse Manager provides direction and manages professional employees and is accountable for the performance and results of a team within the framework of the OBGYN Department and EVMS Medical Group. Responsibilities Position will be actively involved in daily clinical support functions to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare. These functions will include hands on support and oversight within the MIGS clinical operations at the Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Williamsburg locations, to include nursing, provider, and patient support and coordination throughout the day. Responsible for the tracking, trending, and auditing of daily and monthly clinical performance related to operational metrics and quality measures, ensuring the team is working within their scope of practice and meeting all associated metrics.Provide direct supervision of assigned MIGS clinical staff. Responsible for talent identification, hiring, onboarding, and training for new team members. Responsible for coordination and distribution of clinical staff assignments and schedules. Demonstrate critical thinking skills needed for maintaining optimum clinical care and effective clinical workflow when faced with operational challenges such as provider and staffing shortages, emergency scheduling issues, electronic health record and telephone outages and other variables that frequently present within the clinical environment. Identify gaps in performance of staff and provide counseling, training or performance improvement plans as needed. Develop measurable metrics to ensure performance standards are being met.
