The Nurse Manager holds 24-hour accountability for the quality of patient care, efficiency of operations, and human resources management for area(s) assigned. Patient care and services are carried out in collaboration with USC Care administration and the medical staff and in compliance with organizational goals and appropriate regulatory agency requirements. Manages daily operations of assigned ambulatory clinics under the direction of the Service Line Director; promotes a positive and professional environment; supervises clinic support staff; maintains a stable and productive staff; makes data driven decisions. Manages administrative and clinical responsibilities of the office, including directing the work of administrative and medical staff, assigning specific tasks and responsibilities as needed. Implements new programs and procedures to improve services, operations, and efficiency in response to changes within the institution or external environment. Oversees the financial and clerical functions of the Clinic in conjunction with hospital policy. Responsibility also includes enforcing hospital policy and procedures, recruiting qualified personnel and working with hospital administrators, to assure overall effective operation of the practice. Serves as a personal contact for physicians, staff, and outside departments in order to address problems, issues or concerns that require attention. Other duties as assigned. Leads recruitment and retention activities. Facilitates the training of nursing students and other students as necessary in coordination with the Education Department. Serves as a coach and mentor to students. Quality Displays understanding of governing regulations, Title 22, and JCAHO requirements, defining and maintaining the standards of nursing practice while ensuring consistency with the hospital standards. Contributes to the development and implementation of a unit-based performance improvement program which complies with JCAHO, Title 22, and other applicable regulatory agencies. Participates in establishing systems within the departments which support and practice shared governance management philosophy. Contributes to the development of customer service standards and expectations. Assists in establishing methods for monitoring employee, patient and physician satisfaction with the services provided within the department Communication to each and every staff member their role in maintaining a high performing unit with regard to quality. Communication to each and every staff member the outcomes of quality monitoring; draws all staff in to analyze and change practice as necessary. Collects and delegates collection of selected data elements. Required elements are collected and provided to Nursing Quality each month, on time. Service Coordinates and integrates department services on intradepartmental, interdepartmental, and hospital wide levels. Plans for provision of services through provision of appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff. Policies and procedures are in place to support scope of services. Leads selected PSMS initiatives. Communication to each and every staff member PSMS scores and draws staff into necessary change in practice. Cost Uses the budget as a tool to finding more effective methods of care delivery. Participates in planning and goal setting for the nursing department and for own unit of responsibility. Monitor space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources. Approves day to day deviation from established staffing guidelines based on patient need. Ensures that Optilink is up to date on a daily basis. Flexes staff according to patient acuity, census, and budget guidelines. Approves advance requests for time off. Consistently applies applicable HR policy & procedure for granting time off and/or adding additional shift requests. Completes daily (DSR) and bi-weekly payroll activities (Kronos), on time. Growth Serves as coach and mentor to staff. Monitors progress of new hires and ensures they advance to competent, independent practice in a timely manner. Ensure 100% attendance by staff at mandatory education and training programs; .edu modules. Position Summary: Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Director, this position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating and providing high quality, individualized patient care using the components of the nursing process. Performs duties in a manner that provides for the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of the critically ill patient includes completing initial assessment in a timely manner and the ongoing reassessments when warranted by the patient's condition. Incorporates cultural and ethnic factors into assessments/reassessments; correctly differentiating between normal and abnormal findings; and incorporates the functional/developmental age into assessment/reassessment for the adolescent through geriatric patient population. Uses hospital and regulatory standards of care, the nurse demonstrates sound clinical judgment in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing aspects of the trans-disciplinary care plan. In conjunction with the patient/family, the nurse develops an individualized patient care plan and determines interventions based on assessment/reassessment findings. The nurse evaluates patient outcomes on an ongoing basis, establishes priorities for patient care services as evidenced by modification of the care plan, if necessary, and demonstrates the ability to accurately document patient care activities in the medical record. Job Description What will you be doing: The Neonatology Nurse Practitioner (NP) Per Diem is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. A Nurse Practitioner’s practice incorporates both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients. Responsible to the medical director and the chief nursing officer (CNO) and functions as an integral part of the medical team. Practices under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of regulations, Title 16, Article 8, Section 1480-1485, utilizing the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures. These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty, department of Nursing and the Hospital Administration, incorporating CSHS goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery. Provides individualized care upholding CSHS philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan, the Professional Organization Standards, Code of Conduct, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to age and developmental milestones of the population(s) served which may include neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Can identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction/instructions and give consent. Identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served. The Newborn Nursery NP Per Diem is involved in delivery room resuscitations and assessment of unstable newborns in the mother-baby unit who may require NICU transfer. #DOX Qualifications Experience Requirements: One (1) plus years’ experience as Neonatology Nurse Practitioner (NNP) in PEDS – Pediatrics Neonatology. Labor and Delivery experience. Three (3) plus years of nursing experience.
