Summary The Medical Assistant is responsible for all departmental functions aligned with the mission, vision, and goals of PM Pediatrics. The Medical Assistant roles is an opportunity for a pediatric medical assistant to apply their skills in a pediatric urgent care setting and assist with primary patient care based on individual patient needs within their scope of practice under the physician’s direct supervision. This position maintains effective working relationships with all customers, including patients/families, physicians, employees, volunteers, and vendors. Description This role supports operations across two locations in our Pompton Plains and Paramus, NJ locations. Job Responsibilities: Provide clinical and administrative support for providers, patients, and office operations Greet and register patients as they arrive Obtain medical history, patient vital signs, and intake Prepare patients for X-rays Perform and document routine labs, such as throat and urine cultures (venipuncture experience preferred) Irrigate and assist with wounds Assist in performing quality control testing in the lab Be an integral part of the patient care team and assist with patient care within the scope of practice Keep exam rooms and front reception stocked with adequate supplies Maintain order and cleanliness of the waiting room area Practice standard safety practices and precautions Help patients in distress by responding to emergencies and notifying medical team (nurse, urgent care tech, and physician) Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes to management team Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and challenging requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments Assistant patients with complaints and taking an active role in service recovery when needed Perform other duties as needed including apply splints and assisting the nurse and/or provider in other medical procedures Provide exceptional customer services #LI-MO1 Qualifications High school diploma or GED Prior experience and/or education as a Medical Assistant Knowledge or EKG placement and processing in children Ability to obtain laboratory tests via nasal swab, and venipuncture Demonstrate a professional and friendly demeanor Strong communications and organizational skills Prior pediatric experience Capable of multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment Comfortable with computers, Microsoft Office Suite Willing to learn medical software Experience with medical records preferred Compensation: $17 - $27/hour The salary/rate range listed here has been provided to comply with local regulations and represents a potential base salary/rate for this role. Functions as a professional role model and mentor for students and volunteers. Patient care assignments reflecting an awareness of patient needs and skill level of personnel. Organization of provision of care to meets priority needs of patients and unit. Communicates condition of patients and unit requiring additional intervention to the leadership person in the relevant discipline. Participates in the development of other staff members. Communicates with peers in an appraisal of practice as it relates to self and other nursing personnel. Reflects a collaborative effort in meeting the needs of the patient and unit through communication and nursing actions. Provides direction, assistance and support. Assumes accountability and responsibility for completion and quality of assigned tasks. Identifies and communicates to immediate supervisor the need for further staff education. Reflects awareness of authorities and responsibilities of nursing management levels by communication with nursing leadership. Seeks and utilizes nursing leaders as role models and resource persons. Reflects collaborative effort in meeting patient and unit needs by communication with other disciplines. Reflects the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Nursing and the Hospital Center in communication and interaction with families and other groups. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited Nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. (BSN) Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN who is matriculated in a BSN Program with a graduation date within the year. Any Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) RN with Nursing experience must be approved by the CNO. Documented previous experience or educational preparation to support credentials. Position Summary (CMA) Under the direction of the physician, Charge RN or Manager performs direct clinical activities in a courteous, caring and respectful manner. These include patient intake, blood draw, pharmacy calls, EKG and any tests required by the physician. Maintains close working relationships with all practice staff to ensure proper workflow, care and treatment. Responsible for maintaining the daily patient schedule and answers all incoming calls that results in scheduling an appointment, medication refills or pass along inquiries from a clinical or billing nature, in a courteous, caring and respective manner. Coordinates with the clinical staff on any special needs or requirements and ensuring proper patient flow. Supports the Practice and professional staff as directed or requested by Practice Manager. Education High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a formal Medical Assistant program that is recognized by the State of New Jersey - Certification required. Completion of formal coursework in office management, database management or business, computer literacy Experience Previous MA experience in a clinic, physician's office or outpatient setting preferred. Six (6) months of previous customer service/data entry, administrative/office management/clerical experience required. Skills Current and valid certification as a certified medical assistant or registered medical assistant recognized by the Board of Examiners such as American Medical Technology (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required. BCLS certification preferred upon hire, will be required. Job Description The nurse navigator helps breast cancer patients “navigate” through the often-complicated journey of a cancer diagnosis. Throughout this process, the nurse navigator is there to help resolve any barriers to timely care, help connect patients with the resources they may need, and to provide education and emotional support throughout the phases of diagnosis, staging, active treatment and survivorship. Principal Accountabilities Provides a comprehensive assessment of the oncology patient, family and / or caregivers needs at pivot medical visits across the continuum, including assessing barriers to care and distress screening, refer to appropriate disciplines. Provides education related to oncology diagnosis, treatment, cancer center support services and community resources. Facilitates timely coordination of appointments, tests and procedures communicating any concerns to the appropriate physician/s. develop assessment tools, guidelines, pathways and algorithms across the continuum of care. Educates the patient, family and/or caregiver to clinical trials, coordinate with Cancer Research Department Participates in the multidisciplinary tumor conference and document recommendations as outlined by Commission on Cancer Standards. To monitor recommendations for appropriateness with NCCN or other national guidelines. To participate in performance improvement activities to enhance the patient, family and / or caregiver experience across the continuum. To develop in conjunction with support staff support groups and education programs for the patient, their families and/ or caregivers.
