Applies principles of aseptic practice, oversees the selection and preparation of supplies, equipment and instrumentation to all surgical cases. Applies principles of body mechanics and adapts them to various situations during positioning and transfer of patients. Assures that all techniques and practices carried out during the surgical procedure are accurate and reflect standards of perioperative practice. Maintains sponge, needle and instrument counts according to policies and procedures, including notifying the surgeon of the result of the counts.
