AICU is an 8-bed Medical/Surgical Adult ICU at the Huntsville Hospital for Women/Children campus. Orientation consists of working with an experienced staff and length of orientation is typically 6-12 weeks depending on experience. AICU is the only adult critical care unit at the Women/Children campus. The AICU offers a challenging workflow for RN’s. AICU receives a variety of patients that includes primarily critical Medical patients, but also Antepartum, Postpartum, GYN Oncology, GYN, ENT, and any adult patient at WC that requires intensive monitoring. The RN’s in AICU are trained to care for a variety of critical situations including hemorrhage, critical OB, CRRT, ventilators, and titrating drips. We have 4-beds wired for fetal monitoring that is monitored by an L&D RN on our campus for our critical Antepartum patient. AICU RN’s are responsible for all Rapid Responses and Code Blue situations for the adult patient population at WC. The staff in AICU works closely with health care providers to provide excellent care and compassion to our customers. Prepares patients for surgery by performing diagnostic test required by the surgeon and anesthesiologist, documenting past medical/surgical history and current home medications and reporting abnormal results to the appropriate person (surgeon, nurse practitioner, anesthesia evaluator, etc.). The pre-admission RN also prepares patients for the cath lab and other hospital admissions. Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required: Education: BSN preferred. Graduate of accredited school of nursing with current Alabama license required. Experience: Prefer three years varied clinical experience as RN Additional Skills/Abilities: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage situations related to family and visitors, patients of varied ages and needs, physicians and other hospital departments. Executes appropriate patient care by assisting the physicians with diagnostic and interventional procedures. Supports team members before, during, and following procedures to assure optimal patient care. Registry may define responsibilities that are specific to each registry but does not limit activities under direct physician supervision. Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Experience required: Education: High School diploma/GED required. Registered Nurse: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current Alabama license. BCLS certification required within 90 days of employment. ACLS certification is required within 12 months of employment. EKG Competency Testing is required within the first 90 days of employment and annually: (Part 1) Visual identification of 6 Lethal Cardiac Rhythms, passing with a score of 100%; (Part 2) Basic EKG Rhythms written examination, passing with a score of 85% or higher. Experience: Cardiac catheterization for diagnostic and interventional procedures, cardiovascular patient care, radiographic special procedures and/or hemodynamic monitoring experience accepted. Additional Skills/Abilities: Ability to adapt to a fast paced dynamic work environment related to changing daily work schedules, working with patients with acute, chronic, and complex cardiac disease and maintains absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of diagnostic procedures.
