Job Description The Emergency Department Registered Nurse is specially trained to provide prompt response and treatment for any patient presenting with any life threatening, emergent, or urgent medical need. Provides monitoring and therapeutic equipment necessary to provide specialized nursing care to acute or complex patients. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for a specific group of assigned patients, ensuring the coordination of care between other disciplines, physicians, and support staff. Performs professional nursing duties that incorporate the psychosocial, psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other to assess, plan, intervene and advocate for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. The Nurse Practitioner is a member of the intensive care team and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of critically ill complex patients in an intensive care and stepdown care setting. The NP has specialized skill and knowledge related to the unique ICU setting in which s/he practices and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services in a specific ICU or Stepdown, according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based clinical practice standards. The NP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession. Works as part of an interdisciplinary care team coordinating care and collaborating with social work, ambulatory case management, Regional Medical Directors, Hospitalists, the hospital nursing personnel, and the physician in the clinic. Minimum Requirements Graduation from an accredited LVN nursing program. Current valid License as a Licensed Vocational Nurse Experience in and willingness to be part of a multi-disciplinary team. Three years’ experience in public health nursing, acute care, case management, and/or in-home health care required; minimum of 2 years of managed care experience in case management with a focus on inpatient and/or outpatient ambulatory care required. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. A minimum requirement of a valid BLS certification or higher, following the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross guidelines.
