RESPONSIBILITIES I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: • Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, performs assigned surgical “scrub” duties and maintains sterile techniques for all surgical procedures. • Prepares the patient, operating room, equipment, and instruments for surgery, maintaining aseptic techniques in accordance with nursing practice and standards of care. • May be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages. Must be competent in the interpretations of the patient’s self-report or behavior and the information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, & chronological maturtion process. Treatment should be individualized & reflect an understanding of the developmental needs & range of treatment for each patient. II. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE: • Completion of a certified Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Technician or comparable training program; or three (3) years experience as an OR Technician or Surgical Technologist in an acute care or outpatient setting. • Association of Surgical Technologists Certification preferred. • Current BLS certification. EXPERIENCE: • Experience to demonstrate: o Strong organizational and self-motivational skills. o Ability to deal with patients/visitors tactfully and courteously. o Ability to work and maintain composure under constantly changing situations with numerous interruptions. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection. If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Complaint and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
