The UCHC Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus; works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment; frequently functions guided by nursing protocols; and functions as a team leader as assigned. This role also includes maintaining patient records and managing the clinic’s supply inventory, including ordering supplies and verifying deliveries. Under the direction of medical staff, Medical Assistants provide patient education and instructions, and answer patient questions. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries. Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
