Required to work both weekend and rotating shifts in order to provide the institution with 24 hour/ 7 day a week medical coverage. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia CNA license issued by the board of nursing (if you are a recent graduate of a CNA program in VA and not licensed, the NNAAP exam must be scheduled at the time of application). Knowledge of patient care, personal care techniques, and infection control measures. Demonstrated ability to take and record vital signs; to transfer and transport patients in a safe manner using proper body mechanics; to recognize signs and symptoms indicating distress; and to perform CPR. Ability to intervene in crisis or problem situations. Ability to work in a secure/locked environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, take initiative, organize duties, and manage time. Review new physician orders, labs, and treatments for accuracy and completeness. Communicate with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members as needed. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance Ensure compliance with facility policies, infection control, and safety standards. Monitor staff adherence to established protocols and nursing best practices. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits. Report unusual incidents, accidents, or changes in resident status according to policy. Administrative Duties Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges on assigned shift. Complete 24-hour shift reports and ensure accurate hand-off communication. Maintain inventory of emergency supplies and equipment readiness. Serve as the facility’s on-site administrator in the absence of DON/Administrator. Qualifications Current, unencumbered RN license Minimum 2–3 years of clinical nursing experience in long-term care/skilled nursing preferred. Prior supervisory or charge nurse experience required. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to respond effectively in emergencies and make sound clinical and administrative decisions. Familiarity with regulatory requirements for LTC facilities.
