Job Responsibilities

Providing nursing care in post-acute care facilities
Checking vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse and providing regular reports to the broader nursing team
Observing the conditions of residents on an ongoing basis, alerting supervising staff to any concerns or emergencies
Helping residents perform activities of daily living (ADLs), such as toileting, grooming, personal hygiene, and feeding
Changing linens, sanitizing surfaces, and performing other tasks to provide a clean and sanitary environment for residents
Serving as an important go-between for residents and healthcare staff
Staying engaged with residents and offering daily companionship and comfort
Communicating with family members and other visitors and helping to address their concerns
Moving residents safely and comfortably to and from exam tables, beds, and wheelchairs, repositioning them as needed

Qualifications and Skills

Current Illinois Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
Knowledge of medical terms and basic nursing care procedures
Strong observational skills and a high level of attention to details

Provide evidence of employment or occupation, if any, and residence for two years prior to initial employment as a nursing assistant. Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess current CPR certificate or become certified within two weeks of employment. Demonstrates interest and/or knowledge in caring for the ill, disabled, and elderly. Recommends to the Director of Nursing the equipment and supply needs of the department. Inventories and stores the new customer’s personal possessions. Assists customers with packing personal possessions when they are transferred to a new room or when being discharged. Participates in and receives the nursing report upon reporting for duty. Maintains intake and output records as instructed. Checks and reports bowel movements and character of stools. Makes occupied and unoccupied beds, changes bed linens, and straightens rooms, closet, and drawers. Notifies housekeeping if mattress in need of cleaning or replacement. Answers call lights promptly, answer telephone calls as needed and run errands as requested. Obtains blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, heights, and weights as needed.
