A School Nurse position is available for a summer contract in Easton, PA, offering the opportunity to provide essential health services to students during their summer session. This role involves delivering preventative care, managing student health needs, and fostering a safe and supportive environment for student wellness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing and treating student illness and injuries, administering first aid as necessary
  • Providing preventive health services to support students physical, mental, emotional, and social growth
  • Educating students, parents/guardians, and staff on health-related topics
  • Maintaining regular communication with students and families concerning health issues
  • Implementing the school health program while accurately documenting health records
  • Promoting a healthy and safe school environment during all activities

Qualifications for this role require:

  • Licensure as a Professional Nurse (LPN or RN) in Pennsylvania
  • Certification as an Educational Specialist from the Pennsylvania Department of Education
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
  • Current Red Cross CPR and First Aid Instructor certifications
  • Ideally, 3 to 5 years of nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, school nursing, or related fields

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, and reach as needed
  • Effective communication skills including vision, hearing, and speech
  • Capability to lift or carry between 10 and 25 pounds safely
  • Mobility to move independently through school facilities and event locations

Primarily serving as a receiving unit for patients stepping down from MICU, 6A also admits patients from the Emergency Department, outside hospitals, and smaller ICUs requiring a higher level of care for stabilization. The unit frequently cares for patients with respiratory issues (with respiratory therapy available on the floor), drug and alcohol withdrawal, GI bleeds, altered mental status, sepsis, and congestive heart failure (CHF). Nurses manage a high-acuity patient population requiring frequent blood product administration, intravenous access, and close monitoring. The Allegheny General 6C Telemetry Unit is a 30 bed unit providing specialized care for Medical Telemetry, General Medicine, and Internal Medicine patients. The unit cares for patients transitioning from higher levels of care, typically the stepdown unit. Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, COPD exacerbations, drug and alcohol withdrawal, GI bleeds, altered mental status, sepsis, and CHF. The nursing team dedicates time to thoroughly educate patients and their families on medication management, aftercare instructions, and any relevant information to ensure a successful transition from the hospital to home.
