The Registered Nurse - Specialty - Per Diem delivers patient centered care in a culturally competent manner utilizing and promoting evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service while ensuring population-specific The Registered Nurse - Specialty - Per Diem demonstrates towards nursing processes.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Completes assessments and documents patient interactions and general observations, per unit standards, including the need for age and cultural considerations, care management and teaching; makes necessary referrals.
2. Demonstrates advanced level of competency in the area of practice
3. Administers and maintains accurate records related to medications and treatments as per regulatory bodies, policies and procedures.
4. Reassesses and documents the effectiveness of intervention as per guidelines and protocols; evaluates diagnosis/ problems on the plan of care based on the patient’s status.
5. Communicates plan of care clearly in an effective and timely manner to patient, family and the appropriate team members.
6. Participates in the development of policies, procedures, protocols and standards of care.; examines and questions treatment to determine if they are within best practices.
7. Represents nurses by actively participating in committees and task forces.
8. Begins discharge planning upon admission; uses available resources to assist in preparing for discharge. Involves patient and patient support network in plan of care
9. Manages own work and time, and prioritizes assignments to ensure work assignments are completed on time.
10. Adapts to changing work demands and environment. Anticipates possible problems and assists nurse leader(s) in the development of contingency plans.
11. Evaluates other staff in the provision of care; provides concise, constructive feedback to employee and leadership
12. Serves as a preceptor to students and new staff, as needed.
13. Serves as a Charge Nurse or Resource Nurse when needed.
14. Initiates unit-level projects with significant impact on patient care, expense reduction, safety and/or patient experience.
15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree (BSN) preferred.  RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.

Certification and Licensing:

  • Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, ACLS, BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.

Experience:

  • No experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures

  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (i.e. sanitation, decontamination etc.)

  • Excellent patient experience skills

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
