Your role with us
As a medical assistant in Salem Health’s Cardiology Clinic, you will contribute to life-saving care by supporting cardiac patients throughout their diagnostic and treatment journey. This role involves assisting with cardiac testing protocols, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring seamless coordination with cardiologists and clinical staff. Your attention to detail, comfort with complex clinical data, and compassionate patient interactions will help deliver exceptional cardiovascular care.
What you'll do
- Assist with patient assessments, monitor for critical symptoms, and promptly notify providers.
- Gather and document patient histories, vital signs, and reassessments after clinical interventions.
- Support urgent care needs, including identifying patients who may require expedited testing or escalation of care.
- Coordinate and carry out physician orders, including ECGs, stress tests, and lab draws per protocol.
- Perform basic lab testing and ensure medication administration aligns with safety standards.
- Maintain competency in clinic procedures and workflows.
- Provide discharge education such as cardiac care plans, medication adherence, and lifestyle modifications.
- Accurately document clinical encounters, cardiac test results, and provider notes in Epic Ambulatory.
- Ensure proper charge assignment for specialized services.
- Adjust support based on clinic flow and partner with cardiologists, RNs, diagnostic techs and all other clinic staff to maintain continuity of care.
Required qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant - Medical Assistant Certification, such as or equivalent to: CCMA (AAMA), CCMA (NHA), NCMA (NCCT), RMA (AMT), RMA (AAH), CMAC (AMCA), or NRCMA (NAHP).
- Basic Life Support - within 30 days of hire.
