Summary
The Community/Public Health Nurse is a nurse with knowledge in a specialized area of nursing who promotes and provides quality care to individuals, groups, and communities. The Community/Public Health Nurse supports the mission of the College of Nursing (CON) and exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush and CON policies and procedures. Required Job Qualifications:
- Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required.
- Master’s in nursing from an NLN accredited school of nursing.
- Certification as a Clinical Nurse Leader and/or certification in clinical specialty area.
- Four years of experience community/public health nursing.
- Analytical ability is required
- Ability to work in complex organizational systems
- Interact effectively with others in difficult situations
- Ability to use computer system to enter or retrieve data
- Demonstrates growing competence in teaching

Responsibilities
- Leads dissemination and change efforts based upon quality initiatives and evidence-based projects
- Leads and facilitates leadership activities within department and in institution
- Develops and implements health education and prevention programs based on assessed needs for highly complex cases.
- Provides professional consultation at the local level and assesses health needs of individuals and the community.
- Plans and delivers nursing care for individuals, groups, and communities.
- Promotes continuity of care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team at assigned agency.
- Maintains, interprets, and evaluates health records and medical reports for clients.
- Implements various screening programs based on community needs.
- Utilizes community resources for client referral.
- Plans and delivers staff educational programs related to agency/client needs.
- Involved in coaching for reflection and review of complex patient situations in order to identify practical solutions.
- Participates in agency program development and evaluation.
- Monitors compliance of regulated programs.
- Participates in quality improvement efforts.
- Acts as a preceptor for Rush CON students, as requested, at assigned agency site.
- Leads programmatic best practices dissemination based upon comprehensive programmatic data analysis
- Seeks out evidence-based practice to guide their own practice and shares it at a local and regional level
- Facilitates conflict resolution efforts that results in improved team relationships
- Serves to assist staff in implementation of policies related to safe and effective patient care
- Serves as formal mentor or role model to colleagues and/or students
- Integrates state of the science literature into teaching activities
- Participates on college committees/task forces and/or medical center committees
- Serves on committees for professional or community organizations
