About the Job:
PURPOSE STATEMENT:The Director of Nursing is responsible and accountable for providing professional nursing care to clients. Directs, plans, coordinates, monitors and supervises the effective and efficient use of the operations of nursing and the safe delivery of behavioral health/nursing services with a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude. Ensures the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, programs, and services consistent with the facility’s strategic goals and objectives.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (RN) to lead and oversee nursing services while ensuring safe, high-quality, and client-centered care. This role provides leadership, operational oversight, and clinical guidance for the nursing department while supporting the facility’s mission of helping individuals recover and thrive.

Key Responsibilities
Nursing Leadership
Provide strategic leadership for the nursing department and oversee daily nursing operations
Ensure delivery of safe, timely, and client-centered care
Hire, train, mentor, and supervise nursing staff while ensuring appropriate staffing levels
Conduct performance evaluations and support staff development
Clinical Oversight
Oversee client assessments, care plans, and treatment coordination
Collaborate with psychiatrists and interdisciplinary teams to develop effective treatment plans
Monitor client progress and respond to changes in condition
Operations & Compliance
Develop and maintain nursing policies and procedures in compliance with state, federal, and accrediting standards
Monitor census, acuity levels, and staffing needs to maintain efficient operations
Conduct regular rounds, address incidents, and support crisis intervention when needed
Ensure compliance with medication management, infection control, and safety protocols
Quality & Program Management
Lead infection control and safety programs, including surveillance and prevention strategies
Maintain accurate clinical records, reports, and regulatory documentation
Support facility inspections and regulatory surveys, including Plan of Correction implementation
Provide staff training related to healthcare services and best practices
Administrative Leadership
Partner with the CEO and leadership team on strategic planning and budgeting
Manage departmental budgets and resources
Maintain appropriate inventory of nursing supplies and equipment
Participate in leadership meetings to review census, client care concerns, and operational updates
Qualifications
Education
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
Master’s degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing preferred
Experience
Minimum 5 years nursing experience
Minimum 3 years behavioral health or psychiatric experience
Minimum 2 years progressive leadership or management experience
Skills
Strong knowledge of nursing practices, staffing, budgeting, and regulatory compliance
Ability to assess, plan, and implement therapeutic nursing care in a multidisciplinary environment
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
Licenses & Certifications
Active RN license (state or compact license)
Psychiatric Nursing Certification preferred
De-escalation training required (provided upon hire)
