Overview

Under the direction of the Supervising Physician provides primary care in the physician clinic. Duties include providing general and preventative care, educating patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. Serves as a clinical resource to medical assistants, reviews and revises clinical policies and procedures per policy.

Responsibilities

Provides primary care in the physician clinic. Duties include providing general and preventative care, conducts check-ups, treat illnesses, order lab tests and diagnostic imaging, and prescribes medicine for children and adults.

 

Educates patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments

 

Communicates and works with medical staff to ensure coordinated efforts for the provision of high quality medical treatment.

 

Ensures documentation in patient's medical record is completed in a timely manner.

 

Serves a clinical resource for medical assistants, provides in services as needed.

 

Participates in quality improvement and utilization review activities. Assists manager with policy and procedure review and revision.

 

Active Participant in monthly staff meetings.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant Program; OR, Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.Experience: 3-5 years experience in Primary Care preferredLicenses & Certifications: Licensed Physician Assistant, Active DEA license; OR, Certified Nurse Practitioner, California Board of Registered Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License, California Board of Registered Nursing. National Provider Identifier and Current BLS required.Required Skills & Knowledge: Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols. Demonstrates competence in reacting to and handling emergencies. Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to manage priorities and workflow. Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing environment. Acute attention to detail. Must be able to work autonomously. Strong interpersonal skills, Bilingual a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Actual compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.

How you make a difference The Nurse Practitioner (NP) CT offers a comprehensive range of medical services to incarcerated patients. They operate in accordance with established protocols, state guidelines, and under the supervision of the site Medical Director and other site Physicians. In addition to providing necessary medical care, they also document their services and communicate any scheduling changes or need for coverage to the appropriate parties. Key Responsibilities Conducts on-site chronic care clinics and sick call, as well as infirmary rounds as established by Site Medical Director, Health Services Administrator or designee. Provides emergency treatment and responds to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines. Prescribes and documents patient care in adherence to existing policies and procedures, utilizing available in-house resources before off-site referral, if possible. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with accepted practices for incarcerated individuals. Communicates with Medical Director or Health Services Administrator regarding patient care goals, lack of appropriate referrals, or necessary nursing or medical interventions. Additionally, provides input into facility mandatory committees as requested. Qualifications & Requirements Education A graduate of an accredited school of nursing An advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Experience Prior medical/surgical and/or emergency/trauma experience and corrections experience is preferred. Must have the patience and tact to deal with the inmate patient population and ability to work effectively in the corrections environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage. Licenses/Certifications Must have and maintain current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner within the state of employment. Must have and maintain current CPR certification.
