Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire a highly organized and detail-oriented Licensed Registered Nurse, Corrections Nurse II. This position will be responsible for performing direct nursing care to individuals in a correctional facility. The successful candidate shall demonstrate a valid Illinois License and good oral and written communication skills, be a self-starter, and be able to carry out nursing assignments pursuant to the direction of medical personnel in a correctional setting. Essential Functions

Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services.
Monitors and reviews the various functions carried out by the lower-level nurses.
Reviews record keeping functions.
Serves as lead worker to lower-level nurses.
Maintains adequate supply and security of medical equipment.
Reviews medical records and completes health summary forms for individual in custody transfers.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires (A) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate or diploma degree in nursing and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience, OR (B) a bachelor's degree in nursing and two (2) years of professional experience, OR (C) a master's degree in nursing.
Requires licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefers at least two (2) years of nursing experience in a correctional setting.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working in the mental health.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience problem solving in a nursing position.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience working on an interdisciplinary team.
Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience in a leadership role.

Conditions of Employment

Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

Standard of care is achieved through a multitude of services to include 24-hour nursing care, telemedicine, chronic care clinics, sick call screenings/triage, medication administration, patient education, and basic life supporting/emergency care. Document all pertinent information into the health record while practicing confidentiality and interfacing with other departments on an as-needed basis. Registered Nurses possess the ability to delegate tasks/workload and work hours, days, and locations as assigned. Registered Nurses are capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs. To provide evidence-based nursing care and promote continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing. Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits. Minimum Qualifications Possess and maintain valid unrestricted Virginia RN license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not yet licensed, NCLEX-RN Exam must be scheduled at time of application) Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American.
