Overview:

Critical Care Registered Nurses are accountable for the provision of nursing care of assigned patients in all phases of care in the ICU. The Registered Nurse, utilizing theoretical concepts as a basis for decisions in practice will assess, plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care in accordance with standards of nursing practice for adult/geriatric patients.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.

  • Licensure: Current Oklahoma RN License

  • Certifications: BLS & ACLS certified. Required certifications must be current before assigned to care for patients independently. NIHSS; if new to the unit nurse will obtain within the first three months of employment in Critical Care

  • Other: Completes Hospital and Unit Specific nursing competency within 3 months of employment and annually, submits to Nurse Manager/ Education Coordinator.

The ICU cares for a wide variety of critical patients with complex medical conditions- including respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, induced hypothermia, and prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy. The ICU team works in collaboration with the dedicated stroke unit to provide award winning advanced stroke care. We maintain a fast pace to meet the needs of those in the most acute phases of cardiac disease. Common cardiac procedures/diagnosis seen in ICU include post open heart surgery, severe decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock, STEMI, aortic dissection, and acute severe valvular dysfunction. Daily care and responsibilities may include managing various life-support systems including ventilation, heart monitoring, and lifesaving medications.
